Kelly's Secondary Breast Cancer Treatment Fund

Hi

I’m Kelly and as some of you know, I have a very serious diagnosis.

In February 2013 I received the news that the lump I’d found in my breast was cancer. I was devastated.

I had a one year old and a four year old at the time and couldn’t envisage a life where our family could cope with this news.

I didn’t think a worse thing could happen to us. I was wrong.

In 2015, I decided to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and began to train for the 2016 Brighton marathon. As training went on, the pain in my hips was seriously challenging me. [I was once sick on a training run due to the pain and again during the marathon, the pain brought me to start retching]

I took myself back to my breast surgeon and insisted that the pain wasn’t muscular. Thank goodness my consultant listened and May 2016 brought my new diagnosis - the breast cancer had reached my bones and was no longer considered curable. Bugger.

My diagnosis is called many things - secondary breast cancer / metastatic breast cancer / incurable breast cancer / inoperable breast cancer / stage 4 breast cancer. There isn’t a stage 5.

Since diagnosis, I’ve been looking into anything that might help me. Adding the word cancer into anything is like adding “wedding” to anything, it becomes very expensive.

I’d like to take the leap and add these extras into the mix while I’m still well. This gives me the best chance at achieving success. I’m already eating much more healthily and making sure I exercise regularly, as well as reducing stress and anxiety in my life.

At the same time as experimenting with new treatments, I’d like to be able to offer my children the opportunities they would always have had without my cancer diagnosis. Here’s my dilemma.

I’d like to be completely transparent about my life and my intentions…

We have a nice house, in a nice area, we drive a nice car and we go on nice holidays. I don’t want to uproot my children, my car gives me my freedom & independence and I’d like to continue making special memories with my family while I’m still well.

This is where I need your help. I’d like to ask for whatever you can raise, or afford, to help me achieve my goal of getting these potentially life saving treatments that are not available on the NHS.

Please don’t consider give money that you would leave you in debt or short of the things you need/want in life. If this means £1 is what you give, that’s great, if you cannot afford to give, please don’t consider it.

If you don’t want to help, or just feel my cause isn’t worthy of your time, that’s also fine. Please scroll on by and look for another cause you feel is more worthy. Others in my position have received some very unpleasant messages in response to their request, I’m sure you appreciate, I have enough on my plate already.

If you do decide to donate, I will give regular updates on how I’m spending any money that is raised and how I’m doing healthwise.

If the unthinkable should happen and I die without having spent the money that has been donated, it will be donated to a cancer charity of my choosing. Likely to be Make 2nds Count and Breast Cancer Now.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to anyone and everyone who chooses to help me. I’m so grateful if you’ve even managed read to the bottom of my blurb!
