Keepin' it ill: 3rd EyE Open 2018

$507 of $4,000 goal

The 3rd EyE Open is a free creative arts festival in downtown New Bedford that is marking its 20th anniversary in 2018. The festival highlights the vibrant energy of hip hop culture – from improvisational hip hop to breakdancing to graffiti art – but includes activities appropriate for all ages, from 3-on-3 basketball to yoga.

The 3rd EyE Open was first held in 1999 and ran for 14 consecutive years, until 2013. After a hiatus of 4 years, we brought it back in 2017.

The Return of the 3rd EyE Open  was an overwhelming success. Hundreds of people from toddlers to seniors flocked into downtown NB to watch graffiti artists paint murals in real time, take a free yoga class, and enjoy the artistry of seasoned and upcoming break dancers and hip-hop performers.

We need YOUR help to make the 3rd EyE Open 2018 even better!

WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR?  In addition to showcasing local talent, the main stage will feature nationally-recognized  MC Mysonne, an alumnus of the thriving Bronx hip-hop scene of the 1990s, who recently rocked the roof off the BET Cypher.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmn6mOd-Zgk&feature=youtu.be   Mysonne, also known as "the NY General" is performing for a reduced fee because he believes in the power of hip-hop to create bridges across social, racial, and generational lines.

We are also partnering with SuperFlat NB, a new, artist-led group devoted to revitalizing New Bedford's communities through public art murals.

But we can't do any of this without your contribution. We need to rent a sound system, pay a sound engineer, purchase materials, provide insurance, pay for a police detail, and so much more. Whether you can donate $5 or $500, every contribution helps.

The Open is quickly shaping up! We've lined up some new sponsors, including the College of Visual and Performing Arts at UMass Dartmouth! We've had an overwhelming response from local and regional hip hop artists who want to perform. The graffiti murals are in the capable hands of our partners SuperFlat NB.
What's missing? Your contribution! Please give what you can, and please post the link on your social media accounts to help build the fundraising momentum.
