Keep Yoga on the Lower East Side

$47,563 of $45,000 goal

We need your help urgently.

Our yoga studio has been in a very compromising position since April this past year because of the loss of gas, and now we face imminent closure without your help.

This is a simple and honest appeal. We must raise $45,000 by immediately or face eviction.

If you can donate, please do. Every drop counts.

As you probably remember, in April, 2017, the city discovered serious landlord issues involving the gas lines in our building at 172 Allen Street. These landlord violations resulted in the gas in the studio to be shut off and the studio being shut down for almost a full month.  This was a major revenue hit at a critical time moving into the leaner summer months. We completely refit the studio with electrical equipment replacing the useless gas equipment and worked tirelessly to reopen the studio for our practitioners, staff and teachers.

The cost of these repairs and the expense of the one month closure and put the studio in financial emergency.

With a sense of urgency we are searching for help. It is never easy to ask for money. If you are receiving this it is because we know that you understand the significance of this studio. We need to raise $45,000 immediately or face closure.

Please take a moment to consider this and watch the attached video. Please give if you can.

As you know, we have a beautiful studio. Our classes are instructed by incredibly trained and effective teachers and we have a global reputation as a destination in NYC for a memorable yoga experience. Our community is strong, diverse, loving. Our studio nurtures friendships, souls and bodies.

Please help us keep our doors open. Please donate.

Hot and Humble Regards,

Dear Yogis:

The yoga studio that has kept the second floor of 172 Allen Street hot for 13 years closed last Friday and will open the week of December 11th, 2017 as a new yoga home for the Lower East Side.

As many of you know, Bikram Yoga Lower East Side fell into financial crisis in April, 2017, after inspectors found serious safety issues involving the gas lines at 172 Allen St. When inspectors shut off the gas, the studio was forced to close for several weeks to quickly carry out a costly conversion to electric heat. As I faced imminent closure, many of you encouraged me to put out a GoFundMe to help save our studio. The response was overwhelming. Without this community, we wouldn’t have a studio. This studio has always focused on building community, and that won’t ever change. I really couldn't be more grateful. We were without gas for seven months. I never thought we would survive.

With the help of the GoFundMe money, I was able to maintain the lease at 172 Allen and support our staff. Now I have joined forces with Kelly Isaac and Michele Pernetta to open what promises to be an even better hot yoga experience known as Fierce Grace Yoga.

Londoners will be familiar with Fierce Grace, a hot yoga brand founded by Michele in the UK. The Fierce Grace system incorporates classical yoga systems, including Bikram, Ashtanga and Hatha. It is an integrated and carefully designed yoga system that welcomes all body types and levels. The studio will offer several different heated yoga classes including classes that build strength and fitness, as well as classes with a focus alignment and injury recovery.

Fierce Grace on the Lower East Side will be the first studio to offer this yoga in the United States. It is not a franchise, but deeply personal project for me, Kelly and Michelle. The classes will feel like a natural and logical next step for long time Bikram practitioners, and students new to yoga or from different disciplines will discover thoughtful and well-designed heated classes through which to build their practices.

I welcome your questions about our studio’s transition, and I promise to do everything I can to keep this change simple and easy for you. PLEASE write me at tricia@bikramyogales.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

With love, and gratitude.

Hottest regards,

Tricia Donegan

Thank you for your support, love, inspiration, and donation…

I received so much more than money. The immediate response and heart felt momentum gave me the strength to keep going for us all. Our studio has always been about something bigger than I, than us, about connecting with each other for a bigger purpose. Together getting each other to do and create more than we could by ourselves.

Doing this fundraiser was not easy for me, and one of the most difficult choices I have ever had to make. Being the owner, the leader, affecting the lives of so many others, I felt a strong responsibility to do something that I have never done before – ask the community for a helping hand to keep us going.

The obstacles we encountered this spring, I now realize created an opportunity for me to reach out to others and speak up about the struggles that we were having. The greatest gift you all have given me is that I now see that I am not alone, that no one ever has to be alone.

You have not only given me this priceless gift, you have also given us the opportunity to continue to keep serving the Lower East Side community. We have bought a little bit of time, thank you! We still have a ways to go, and a wait patiently for the building owner to complete the installation of gas lines that are necessary for us to continue to offer the quality of hot yoga we all benefit from. We are looking forward to the new and exciting programming we will have to offer in the Fall and Winter.

Thank you for being so gracious,

Humble and Hot regards, Tricia Donegan

I feel like the world is supporting us as we are surrounded by the belief and the fight for ourselves and our studio.

Thank you everyone for being shocked, angry, perhaps even fearful, but not letting it distract us from the steps we need to take to continue to do what we love, with who we love and where we love.
The LES studio has become more of a home than your average yoga hot box.

One step at time, we are almost there, we have a little more than half to go, the last half is the hardest, but the best. Let's rally each other and together we will stretch a little bit more, it will make the difference. and I know that is why you are here.

Share this with those who have inspired you any which way you like- get the word out- this is about you, this is about us, this is happening only because we are doing it.

Drip Sweat. Share Love. Love you, like crazy Tricia
Stretching into our future.
