Our family has been in the United States since 1997. We fled Mexico after my father was assaulted 13 times in the span of 1 year working at his family's business. They currently run a small restaurant in rural Alabama, serving up delicious food in a small space filled with big love. My US citizen brother and father were handcuffed following a traffic stop in Gwinett County, GA--a 287-g county. Lilburn police arrested my mother and an ICE hold was placed on her at the Gwinnett County Jail.
My mother is the glue that keeps our family together and recently her arrest and subsequent detention at Irwin Detention Center threw us into a whirlwind of sadness and despair. We were luckily able to get her released on bond with the help of our community and friends across the nation. Now, my mother faces deportation and we need your help with attorney costs for her immigration case and the fees for the traffic court.
