Daisy is a miniature Hereford calf born with only one digit per foot instead of two, in April 2018. Her owners, the Shaums, have generously allowed her to become a beloved pet and learning patient. Under the guidance of STEM and biology teachers Mrs. Jennifer Yoder and Mrs. Cathy DeMeyer respectively, students at Goshen High School have been working to understand her challenges in mobility and create solutions to stabilize her feet. The team began working with Daisy alongside Veterinarian Dr. Emilie Blough of Crossroads Food Animal Veterinary Service, to understand her mobility challenges.  Various modalities including splinting, bandaging, casts, and braces have been utilized to help her have a relatively normal and fully mobile baby cow life. Her predicted adult size and growth have demanded finding a more permanent and stable mobility solution, and summer break has halted student design prototypes. Her presence at the school and in the community has stimulated learning and enthusiasm in dimensions not imagined. Daisy's impact on others is remarkable and has provided real-life problem solving opportunities for students when many stories of Nationwide school budget and resource limitations exist.  We are extremely excited to announce that Dagny Laur, a Certified Prosthetist and owner of of Paws In Motion in Valparaiso, IN, has begun the process of creating custom fit splint braces for Daisy as of May 29, 2018! These will be designed with growing Daisy weight tolerable plastic and padding, sculpted to fit specifically on Daisy's legs and provide stability, full motion, and support which she can continue to use as she grows! Her braces come with a lifetime  commitment by the Paws In Motion team to re-fit, re-tweak, and re-construct as needed.  We're so grateful for the continued support of Daisy and unique learning experiences made possible by projects like what Daisy has to offer.  Could you please help us spread the word about Daisy and share this page? If you are able and moooved to financially support the Daisy project as we fund her custom splint braces, we would be humbled and sincerely grateful. Thank you all for your interest and help in keeping Daisy Moooving!
