Hey guys.

As many of you know, I’m the Publisher of Big Easy Magazine, online home for progressive New Orleans. From race, environmental, economic and social injustices to Saints commentary and coverage, we strive to cover the issues that matter most to New Orleanians, and we do so with the help of small businesses and from the people who pay to become members. Over the last year, we broke major news stories, a few of which garnered national attention. This wouldn’t be possible without your dedicated support.

Recently, as you may have heard, multi-millionaire and Advocate owner, John Georges purchased the Gambit and recently the Times Picayune, which leaves Big Easy Magazine as one of the only leading independent progressive voices for the people of New Orleans.

Now I’ll get straight to the point. Our continued existence depends on how much money we can raise within the next three weeks so that we can continue to pay our writers, hire and maintain the necessary sales staff and management and maintain our site. After bankrolling over $100k of my own personal funds, I’m pleading with you for your financial support. I’m confident that if we can raise $10,000 over the course of the next month we will be able to maintain our current staff and hire the additional staff necessary to keep Big Easy Magazine afloat.

With so many injustices and so many people who have never had a voice in our city, Big Easy Magazine is your voice, and the soul of New Orleans. Please fight for our continued existence. Don’t let big corporate media defeat us that easily.

Hey guys!

Our fundraising drive through GoFundMe has progressed well enough for us to sustain most of the magazine operations into the next month. As of June 1st, we're at $1400, but we’ve decided to extend our deadline to June 15th and make $3500 our new goal.

We’re so grateful to our friends, our families, our neighbors, and especially our readers for chipping in, sharing, and donating to the cause of local progressive media. Your support has lifted us up so much and will most assuredly not be lost or forgotten.

If you care about local independent progressive media in an era where multi-millionaires such as John Georges are monopolizing our local press, then please donate any amount you can to make our operation a success. We can do this! Do not give up.

What else can you do if you’ve already donated and can’t donate anymore? Share our content on Facebook and tell people about our fundraising operation. Call and email others who may be able to give. We believe in you because you believe in us and together we can ensure Big Easy Magazine becomes a progressive icon for New Orleans and an inspiration for the expansion of progressive media around the world.

Thank you,
Scott Ploof

Hey guys! We have under 5 hours left and we’ve readjusted the goal. We are at $1350 (received a few donations outside of this platform). Although we are falling short of $10k, your donations are far from in vain. Because of your generous support, we are able to sustain most of our operations for the next month, which would not have been possible without you. However, to fully function at the same rate, we need to hit the $3k mark. So please share this link and ask folks to contribute if you are unable to contribute further at this time. We need your help! We believe in you!

Hey guys,

We are at $700 as of now. Unfortunately, we are not quite 1/10 of the way there. However, we also know that many fundraisers pick up steam in the final days before the deadline. The goal is not just set at $10,000 to see how much we can raise. It’s set at $10,000 because that’s exactly what we need to maintain our functions.

With Big Easy Magazine’s reporting over the last year, we’ve uncovered and shed light on the challenges and issues this community has faced. When no one else was willing to speak out against the demise of our public schools and racism within the charter schools, Big Easy spoke out. When no other outlet was willing to discuss the injustices experienced by the LGBTQ community, Big Easy Magazine was able to speak out. While the rest of the media has largely ignored the impact that the Trump administration’s policies have had on people of color and other minorities and community interest groups throughout the city and state, Big Easy Magazine has been your voice.

As I’ve explained before, I launched this media operation because I was passionate about providing New Orleans with an unapologetically progressive voice that covered the issues affecting us all in an unbiased and objective manner.

With the mass consolidation of corporate media, local independent media is being threatened. If we go, so goes one of the sole progressive voices of this city. This media operation is much bigger than any of us. We need your help today. With your help, we can keep Big Easy Magazine alive and going strong. Please contribute what you can today!
