Hello world, my name is KC Matthews. I’m a 27 year old Black transgender man who is currently incarcerated. I’ve been incarcerated at Central California Women’s Facility for seven years, and am due to re-enter society in less than a year.
I plan to transition into a halfway house to help me have a successful re-entry into a world that is now different from the way it was when I left it at 20 years old. So much has changed, including the person I’ve become and the good I’ve made of my sentence. Since my incarceration I’ve received my GED, A/A degree in Social and Behavioral Science, OSHA10 certifications, CPR certifications, and have gained knowledge and skills in the electrical field by working closely with journeymen electricians to build a 72,000 square foot mental health building here at the prison. I have dreams, goals, and a destination in life. I’ve made the most out of my prison stay and accepted the rehabilitation with open arms.
I am humbly asking for your financial support in helping me re-enter society with some of the things I’ll need to survive in the unfamiliar world I’m being released to:
- pants, t-shirts, warm clothes, shoes
- hygiene items
- identification
- housing (hoping to raise $$ for first month’s rent + a security deposit)
These are all important things I need in order to survive. When you leave prison, they don't let you keep anything you have unless you ordered it directly from a prison vendor - and everything I own including the clothes on my back has been given to me by other prisoners.
Being a newly released parolee, these things can be hard to get without the support of family and friends. In my case, I'm not connected to my family of origin, and I’m reaching out to you. No donation is too small -- any contribution you can make is deeply appreciated, and if you could pass my page along to others who are concerned with the wellbeing of a soon-to-be formerly incarcerated Black transgender man, it would make a huge difference in my life.
