KC Carden's Medical Fund
The past few months have been very hard on each of us, albeit in different ways. We are all trying to come to grips with the fact that God’s plan and timeline may be very different than ours.
To give us all something to look forward to and be excited for, we are planning to head to the beach and some warm weather in early December. We are hoping that the sunshine and sand in Hawaii will be a good
"Time for another update! There have been several changes over the past couple of months. After dropping consistently and significantly all spring, KC's PSA level began to rise again, which was disappointing and frustrating for all of us! When we went in for chemo a couple weeks ago, his PSA had climbed to 12, and the doctors decided that since he was no longer responding well to Taxotere, they would switch to Zytiga, which is a pill form of chemo that is taken daily. KC just got started on it last Friday. They also did a bone scan last Thursday, which showed a new tumor in his right humerus. In addition to chemotherapy, they are planning on doing radiation for that tumor here in Sheridan. We appreciate the support of all of our friends and family as we attempt to face these new challenges with as much grace and courage as we can muster! Love You all!"
The past 2 weeks have not been great. He has been painful, uncomfortable, having night sweats, etc, but we are told it's all part of the cancer and chemotherapy. He rarely complains and is just such a great example to me!
We went in for round 5 of chemo on Tuesday...it's becoming part of our "new normal" routine. He knows all the nurses by name and enjoys talking with everyone at the cancer center while we are there.
I feel like we are really entering the "endurance" part of this journey now. Instead of being continually overwhelmed with emotions like we were at first (I shouldn't have to know where Ensure is at the store yet...we are too young to have to go through this...and we have a handicap parking tag in our car...and everyone at the cancer support group and his Livestrong class is old enough to be my mom or dad...something is just WRONG with this whole situation!), I am trying to just take it one day at a time and have no expectations for what can/will happen in a particular day. Most of all, I am trying to find little ways to help him and others, and to be GRATEFUL for the nutrition he gets from ensure when he doesn't feel like eating, for getting rockstar front row parking everywhere, and for the knowledge and firsthand insight of those in the support group and Livestrong class.
We definitely cannot change the situation we are in, but we can control how we react to this (admittedly large and uninvited) challenge that has been placed directly in our path!
Your support through medical donations, sweet comments and emails, meals, and visits has just been amazing! We are so lucky to have all of you in our lives, and I love to read comments to KC and help him realize how many lives he has truly touched over the years!
Thanks again to all of you!
You are in our prayers everyday. We pray for strength for all of you to feel God's love and grow closer every day. Enjoy the beauty and warmth of Hawaii Love, hugs and prayers, Bob and Gayle Blackwell
