Terra's Medical Fund

Dear family and friends,

Most of you don’t know that my beloved daughter Terra has been in kidney failure for almost 4 years. For her, it’s been an on-going battle that is difficult, frightening, exhausting and painful. As her mother, it’s both terrifying and heartbreaking to watch. Terra’s health is now at a CRITICAL stage which is why I’m writing this letter. Just a couple weeks ago the potassium level in her blood was at a life-threatening high and she was in jeopardy of going into cardiac arrest—her doctor told her she could have died. Her kidneys are now at just 7% function so blood work has to be done several times a week to try to keep her out of the hospital. Because her body is in crisis, Terra’s doctor has said she should not be working now with this stage of kidney failure. Regrettably, her husband left as a result of her illness and left her without his medical insurance and income which leaves Terra no other option but to keep working in order to keep her medical insurance and pay her bills. Unfortunately her job as a manager requires her to be mostly on her feet during the 10+ hour days she works from 4pm to 3am. She also does not have a car and must walk a total of 3 miles to and from work. Past medical bills are excessive and overwhelming her and she feels the burden of not being able to pay them - let alone pay her current bills and those that are accumulating. This is all putting even more stress on her body. To keep her kidneys functioning she is scheduled for a procedure this Friday to place a thin tube or catheter into her abdomen. This will be used for Peritoneal dialysis in which a cleansing fluid is put into the abdomen through the catheter and is used to pull waste and extra fluid from the blood. Once drained it’s replaced with fresh fluid. This process, which takes about 30 minutes, is done 4 times during a 24 hour period whether at home or at work. She will need at least 2 weeks to heal and is not supposed to work at all but is already planning on returning as soon as possible. It is not in her best interest but she is desperate to keep working to ensure she has insurance and an income to keep paying as many of her bills as she can. It’s overwhelming for us to be limited in how much we can help her. It’s a powerless and daunting feeling, and so frightening. With some financial help I’m hoping Terra will take the time needed to heal and cut back on some hours so that she can recover her strength. Ultimately the goal is to improve her health to the point that she will qualify for a kidney transplant. And that is why I’m turning to each of you in the hope that you’ll step forward to help my daughter with a donation to help pay her medical bills. The goal we've set would pay her past due and current medical bills. Any help you can give will help to relieve some of the stress she lives with every day and restore her hope for a healthier future. All prayers are welcome and thankfully received. God bless each of you for your consideration.  Vicki
