Hello everyone!
My name is Kazuko Okubo and I am hopeful for your support as I make my trip of a lifetime, my return to Japan.
I am an artist, a student, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother and I am returning to Japan, my birth country, as an exchange student. I have lived in the USA since 1970. I have not been back to visit in the last 30 years. My life in the USA has been very challenging...
I would like to share my story..
I am a Japanese woman who marries an American man just after World War II was over. At that time in Japan many Japanese people had trouble with American service men. Many people were hurt by American solder. I came to the united state as my honeymoon and I did believe I will go back my country after my honeymoon was over. Even though, I bring bunch hope, trust, caring and wanting to be best wife for my wonderful American husband. I thought my husband and his family will help me different of two culture come tougher. I tried so hard to fit in this country. While I trying I might lost some of my culture and I learn some American culture. There for I do not have my own country anymore and I wonder will I fit in my original country Japan or will I fit American culture?
This is what I have written about my life in a book, Japanese Wife. Please read the reviews here on Amazon :
" You become the author herself - a stranger in a strange land, lost and bewildered and wondering what happened to the Samuri code of honor that she grew up with - the broken English makes the hardships and joys that much more realistic"
" I hate kazuko had to experience America in this way and hope that she has found good hearted people in America since her first experience."
"This is a story that simultaneously breaks your heart, keeps you on the edge of your seat, angers and disgusts you that others would choose to take such advantage of her, and amazes you that she is able to keep going with energy and conviction."

And I was interviewed in the newspaper. Link here
"Like many stories of single parenthood and poverty, Kazuko's book "Japanese Wife" begins with a man: an American engineer who promised a budding Osaka dressmaker the promise of love and opportunity on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. A man who instead dragged her to virtual isolation and servitude in southernmost Florida."
My Life Now...
After a second failed marriage, I have been rebuilding my life for many years, but now I am at university to study my art and my writing and to help people. I am life long learner. I now have the chance to return to my birth country as an exchange student after so many years. It is so exciting for me.
What I am raising money for...
I am excited to go back Japan to continue practice my art, and learn more traditional Japanese artwork styles. Here are samples of my art work, an egg-shell mosaic collage:

And a light house:

More than my art, I want help students translate English/Japanese, share what I learn from Japan, I want my story to be inspiration for others. I am going to write more on how Japanese changed old to new, from my expereince. And for anybody, else especially immigrant woman who have hard time, I want to assist to them. It is important in this life to respect and honor people. I would like to rediscover my Japanese roots and the Japanese qualities of honor, pride and respect. It is important in this life to respect and honor people.
How the money will be used...
For the expenses, I am about short $6000 for the tuition of the program cost. I will use the money to make this dream a reality. Having the money by December 5, 2016 will ensure my entire program will be covered.
Why this means so much to me...
Because if I become more educated I can share my education with those who need it, and can grow. I can teach egg shell painting, share Japanese people life lifestlye and American people lifestyle, good and bad, from different generations. I need to grow myself to help other people. Going back to Japan will help me grow. This will mean so much to me.
How thankful I will be...
Now I am making new book, and hope to write in Japan, so I will give this book to whoever help me. Maybe that book will help other woman and men too find peace. This would be a real honor.
Thank you,
Kazuko Okubo
