Kaydence Sadler in Trust

Donation protected
Just before Mother's Day,  7 year old Kaydence Sadler was whisked down to St Joe's Hospital in Vancouver  from her home on Denman Island  by emergency helicopter, then over to Children's Hospital. Since her diagnosis with Leukemia,  she has been undergoing a lot of tests  and the family's life has been turned upside down.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) accounts for roughly 80% of all acute leukemia in children, whereas Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is more rare, representing only 20% of cases. The good news is that it now seems that Kaydence does NOT have AML, but the more common type...ALL...and her prognosis is good!

Treatment includes chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Managing side effects and complications is an important part of therapy so these treatments must be undertaken in the hospital. Thanks to YANA (You Are Not Alone), Kaydence and her mom Danielle VanderMolen now have an apartment to stay in while she receives the treatment  necessary - expected to involve at least eight months in Vancouver (increased from the six months anticipated initially).

Being separated from home and the rest of the family is both an emotional and financial challenge. Sister Lizzy and grandparents Tom and Dora have a long commute for visits and of course the support of family will be integral to Kaydence's recovery. There are a number of ways you can offer this brave 7 year old and her family the community support they need right now, and one of them is to make a financial donation that can help with travel expenses and other necessities through this GoFundMe account.

A medical emergency support fund has also been set up at the Coastal Credit Union on 4th Street in Courtenay for those who would prefer to donate privately that way.  The account number is 100022890931 [please note, this is a new number as of June 11th] . Checks made out to "Kaydence Sadler in Trust", or cash can also be deposited on your behalf if you live on Denman, by contacting Fireweed or Mike @ 1209 .

Cards from friends and fellow islanders would be so appreciated! Kaydence would also benefit from activities and items to help keep her busy. She will be an outpatient, but allowed to spend very limited time outdoors. Colouring or activity books, and books to read would be great. Germs are a serious concern so unfortunately, clothing or stuffies are not appropriate.

Thankyou so much for whatever you can share, and please pass on this GoFundMe invitation to others!
