Kauai Keiki Kane Piano Performance

Donation protected
Jannik Keoki Evanoff was born at Wilcox Hospital in 2008. At the age of 3 ½, he started violin lessons with Mrs. Helen Sina of Sina String Studios. Jannik has performed in several Christmas and Spring shows, along with performing at the Regency Pua Kea Senior Center with the Sina String Studios group. At the age of 5, he showed interest in the piano. Mrs. Virginia Shepherd of Lois Ricciardi Piano Studios became his instructor. Lois Ricciardi Piano Studios have their students do semi-annual performances to show off their talents and to get them used to performing in front of an audience. Another service was to get Jannik to play for the American Piano Guild Society where he stood out and got top ratings. After two years and upon advice from Mrs. Shepherd, Jannik was able to audition for Ms. Monica Chung. She agreed to take him on and instruct him. His growth in music continued.

Working with Mrs. Sina and Ms. Chung, Jannik completed a spring project of piano accompaniment in live and recorded form, accompanying a violinist, Jeannie Longboy, playing a piece by F. Seitz, Concerto No. 2 in G Major, Op. 13, 3rd Movement, and performing on violin another F. Seitz piece, Concerto No. 5 in D Major, Op. 22, 1st Movement, to his own recorded piano accompaniment. Jannik performed the two accompaniments at the Sina String spring performance of “Having A Ball” on the Island School Main Hall stage.

Jannik’s musical influences expanded with his enrollment at Kauai Community College’s Continuing Education program. He joined the KCC Orchestra, 2nd violin section, under the baton of Maestro Sarah Tochiki, which added another dimension to his musical learning and experiences. The orchestra performed their winter concert on December third. He is looking forward to the spring concert. KCC is one of a few institutes in Hawaii that offer this kind of musical opportunity.

Along with his brother, age 5 (violin), and sisters, ages 10 and 7 (violin), he goes to Regency Pua Kea Senior Center, 3 to 4 times a year, to perform on the piano and violin for the residents.

Ms. Chung was instrumental in helping Jannik prepare and perfect his musical entry on the piano for the 2nd Annual International Music Festival for Young Musicians, 12 and younger, in Hamburg, Germany. He was one of many entries from 17 different countries representing all different types of musical instruments. As a result, he is one of thirty winners and is invited to perform at the world famous “Kleiner Saal, Laeiszhalle” (Music Hall), Hamburg, Germany in February, 2017.

You can see his application performance on Youtube.

Thanks to the richness and wealth of musical influences on Kauai from Mrs. Sina, Mrs. Shepherd, Ms. Chung and Ms. Tochiki and all of the “Director” type people that make all of this possible, Jannik is realizing some of his dreams already and continues to shoot for the stars.

Mom needs to join him and we are hoping to send his brother for more moral support. Going to Germany in the winter means no “slippahs”, a whole different set of clothes. Any funds collected would help offset tickets, hotels, rentals, food and clothing costs. Any and all help from our community is greatly appreciated. He has already made us proud and he will do the same for Kauai.
