Katie’s Hope Journey to End Her M.S.

For those of you who don’t know our sister Katie, we’d like to share some information with you in hopes that you might want to join us in supporting her fight.

Katie is a 32-year-old wife, mother, daughter, aunt, and friend to many. Katie and her husband Tony have been married for thirteen years and have 7 children between them. They currently depend on Katie's income since recently starting their new family business. On February 20th, 2010 Katie was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS) and her world turned upside down.

Living with Multiple Sclerosis for the nearly 9 years and having failed five medications, Katie is running out of time and options. It is becoming increasingly more difficult for her to have the quality of life she and her family deserve. Over the past few years her Multiple Sclerosis has progressed in such a way that it causes her to suffer from extreme fatigue, numbness, tingling, heat intolerance, cognitive issues, memory loss, bladder issues, vision problems, vertigo, "MS hug", severe ice pick headaches, and tremors which makes her day to day life difficult.  All MS medications that are currently available will only slow down disease progression up to 30%.

However, there is a treatment called HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant) which has been proven to STOP disease progression in people with RRMS.

HSCT is the transplantation of Multipotent Hematopoietic stem cells, which comes from her own marrow. This is a very invasive treatment that also involves a regiment of high potent chemotherapy.  This option is not available to everyone with Multiple Sclerosis and we are so excited and blessed that Katie has been approved to receive this life-changing treatment at Northwestern Medicine University Hospital in Chicago!

This has not been an easy decision for Katie and our family, but after much prayer, we know that our HOPE and trust in Christ will get us through.

We are seeking YOUR SUPPORT as this will be a major financial undertaking for Katie and her family. We are still waiting to hear back from insurance with the hope that they will be of assistance in this process.

Time is of the essence – please know that every prayer, every share on social media, and every donation is greatly appreciated.

Please follow Katie’s Hope Journey!

Any further details please feel free to contact Katie directly.

Thank you for your consideration and God Bless you,

Katie here! These last weeks have been really rough and stressful. But, I'm still smiling!!! You know why?! Because I'm alive and I got my life back. I was on and off the phone with disability and my doctor's office to figure out what the problem was that I haven't gotten anything in 3 weeks. After being on the phone with Long Term Disability for over an hour, I was denied due to having a pre-existing condition and not holding my insurance for 12 months.

To receive a $1000 donation the other day brought me to tears because it keeps my faith that there are people out there who care and are generous. I am not able to go back to work so my only hope right now is fundraising. I did apply for SSDI but that will take months. I just need to take one day at a time and trust in Gods timing with everything . The things that have helped is helping others who are looking into HSCT or going through it. Even before this, I've always been the person that people come too and I am proud of that

I do still have t-shirts for sales as well!!! Not being able to keep up with medical bills and bills at home is stressful, but trusting that God will provide
Besides here I also have my PayPal set up for donations.

Thanks to one of Katie's amazing supporters Kathy O (Katie) was reminded we haven't updated since March!
Katie got pre-testing on March 11th, 12th, & 13th. Flew home with her mom on March 13th. Katie, mom, and her sisters all flew back on March 18th.
She was admitted into the hospital March 19th for one day of chemotherapy to prepare for her stem cell harvest. She was discharged on March 20th. Katie, her mom and sister's all went back to the hotel across the street from the hospital. After resting for four days, Katie started Neuprogen shots on March 24th. This was to prepare her bone marrow. She developed some bone pain, but she was a trooper!
On March 29th Katie went back to the hospital to get a temporary vas catheter placed in her neck to harvest her stem cells. They only needed 2 million stem cells and Katie harvested 26.8 million!!
They flew back home on March 31st.
Katie was home for one week, and flew back to Chicago with her mom on April 8th. On April 9th she got a PICC line placed in her arm to receive the chemotherapy and other medications.
On April 10th she was admitted back into the hospital and started 5 days of chemotherapy. Katie handled it pretty well, only got sick one time. Her stem cells went back in her on April 15th!! This was an amazing day!! While in the hospital Katie's right foot that's been numb for 9 years was NO longer numb! She was discharged in April 24th and flew back home on the 25th. It was a little rough at first when she got home. Her husband even had to call an ambulance on April 30th because she couldn't breathe, she ended up having a severe panic attack and has never had one before. Katie will not be able to work for a long time, her short term disability ran out 2 weeks ago and is trying to get her long term disability approved. She is still actively fundraising due to medical bills she is still trying to pay on and bills at home. If you can donate, thank you! If not please keep sharing and praying for Katie!

Update on Katie
We are still actively fundraising while Katie is in Chicago! EVERY donation helps! And we still need to reach our goal for Katie!!!
She had pre-testing on March 11th-13th. This consisted of an MRI, EKG, ECO, pulmonary function test, and blood work.
She will lose all her hair due to the chemotherapy, so she shaved her head with her family and friends at her home before heading back to Chicago. Her son Vinny shaved his head with her!
Katie was then back in Chicago March 19th for her first day of chemo. She was discharged on the 20th to recover at the hotel. Chemo made her very fatigued and sleepy. And yesterday, on March 24th Katie started her Neupogen shots to start to prepare her bone marrow for harvest on Friday, March 29th. Bone pain already started with day one of the shots, it progresses as the day goes on, and she has to continue to take these shots until Friday morning. She will be back at Northwestern early on Friday to have a temporary Vas Catheter to harvest her stem cells. After this, she will be back home for a few days to rest and be with her family and headed back to Chicago April 8th-27th. We will give another update in April with what is going on while she is there.

Katie leaves for Chicago this Sunday, March 10th! She is still working up until Friday her last day. She has to use her cane every day with the pain in her legs increasing. By the end of the day she barely has any strength. Please keep her in your prayers for strength to begin her journey to get her life back! We are still actively fundraising. Every little donation helps!!!
Thank you!
