Kate's Quest Wheelchair Sports

In 2012, Kate McNamara suffered a back injury while wakeboarding. She waited until 2016 to have surgery to fix the injuries, trying other options before attempting the surgery. Unfortunately, there were complications that arose from surgery which left her legs damaged. There was a chance she would be using only a wheelchair, but that just gave her more motivation to work hard in physical therapy. She now uses one to two crutches for short to mid-distances and the chair for long distances. This has been strenuous on her both physically and mentally. However, the athlete mentality in Kate helps to push her every day. Now she wants to get back to the sport that gave her such joy growing up.

Kate has officially started to train for Track and Field in the discus, shot put, and javelin. Currently the qualifying distance for the National Championships in discus is 15 meters. She is currently throwing 18 meters, which is also only half a meter short of qualifying for the World Championships in London.

She would like to be able to go to the 2017 Desert Challenge Games in Tempe, Arizona, which would help her qualify for Nationals. Once she accomplishes that, her next step would be to qualify for World’s and then hopefully Tokyo 2020.

Unfortunately, it can get pretty costly. Kate would need to be able to afford proper training, travel, hotels, uniforms, and meet entry fees. Please help her achieve her goals and donate what you can!
