Kasia Kinder’s Fight Against Aplastic Anemia!

Donation protected
Meet the Kinder Family; Sam, Kasia, Bella and Joey!

Their Story

One year ago, Kasia was diagnosed with a very rare and severe form of Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is caused when the bone marrow and the stem cells that become blood cells are damaged. This results in a deficiency of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Living in Rosseau ON, the closest hospitals for treatment and monitoring this disease are Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie and Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Kasia has endured many tests, scans, biopsies, and several treatment plans to reboot her stem cells. All without success. Additionally, she has fought numerous infections and continues to receive blood transfusions 2-3 times/week! Her only cure is a bone marrow transplant.

Through all of this, Sam has been Kasia’s rock. While never far from her side, he has continued to keep their children’s life and routine as normal as possible. Despite the numerous trips to Barrie and Toronto and many moves between friends’ homes, Sam, Bella, and Joey have remain joyful, optimistic and supportive to Kasia.

Kasia’s parents and brother live in Poland. Although they had a short visit with Kasia earlier in the year, they are unable to be with her now. They hope to visit again soon.

Their Glimmer of Hope!

This December, Kasia will receive her bone marrow transplant! Although her donor is not a 100% match, the family is extremely grateful for this opportunity. This procedure is very high risk as Kasia continues to fight a fungal infection. Her chemotherapy treatment begins on December 12th followed by the transplant on December 18th. Afterward, Kasia must be in quarantine for 21 days. She will then be allowed limited visitation for 30 days followed by another 30 days at a recovery lodge.

You Can Help!

Your donation will alleviate many of the costs the Kinder family has incurred over the past year. These expenses include fuel, accommodations, and hospital parking. Additional funds raised will help Kasia’s family in Poland come to Canada to be with her.

Every dollar helps! Please donate!
