KARYN TOMCZAK - CAR ACCIDENT RECOVERY FUND
WORLD CLASS PROFESSIONAL DANCER & DANCE INSTRUCTOR
Karyn was in a major car accident. She is in need of your help. She has broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, and she has an inflammation in her brain making it difficult to see. She is just plain beat up from the incident.
During the aftermath of hurricane Michael, Karyn was driving through an intersection on her way to work when a car coming across the intersection failed to stop. They did not see the officer that was directing traffic and smashed into Karyn’s driver's side, T-Boning her car. Her Prius was ferociously crushed, she was unconscious and she was pinned in the car. It is truly a miracle that she lived. The blunt force from side collisions is brutal!
Karyn had to be cut out of the car with the jaws of life. The emergency workers could not believe that she had survived the car wreck.

Karyn’s Facebook Post - Sept 25th
"Well, today was not a good day! On my way to work, I was t-boned right into the driver side, meaning me! I’m in the hospital with a badly fractured pelvis and some broken ribs. It really hurts! Please send your prayers. I’m out of commission for 3-6 months. It’s a lot scary! But my CCU colleagues have been amazing! One day at a time!"
She is doing well in recovery and her friends have been a huge encouragement for her.
Karyn has shied away from letting friends and co-workers step in and help her with her financial needs. This is a devastating car accident. We all are praying for her recovery. In the meantime, there are substantial medical bills as well as day to day needs. Karyn is also having to relocate to another apartment. It is too much to climb the stairs each day. She is confined to a wheelchair while her injuries continue to heal. Now, Karyn needs your help!
I have known Karyn for years. She has always been a force of nature. She has the will and ability of a few people that I have ever known. In 2014 she was featured in Dance Magazine for her “National Dance Teacher Award for Higher Education.”

Tomczak said working as a dance teacher sometimes requires long hours but the work is tremendously fulfilling.
“I learn new things about dance every day from my students and through ongoing professional development about my craft,” said Tomczak. “I get to do what I love to do, make a living doing it, and share it with my students; all of which makes teaching dance the best job in the world.”
She has always been there for her students, faculty, and colleagues. Her never-ending and contagious positive attitude and energies have helped others do things they couldn’t imagine. Now she needs you to be there for her!
A few years ago I asked Karen to choreograph a corporate video for Nypro, a company in Asheville. We were working with the factory workers, and she got right in there and choreographed dance numbers with hesitant factory floor workers. When she had worked her magic, everyone was smiling and dancing. It was incredible!

Karyn has had a long, illustrious career as a Rockette and professional dancer touring the world. Her talents have put smiles on so many audiences faces worldwide. Karyn was a team captain with the Radio City Rockettes. In 2013, she organized a group of WCU dance students to go to NY. They had a chance of a lifetime to sing and dance with the legendary Rockettes in a NY show “A Salute to Rockette History”.
I was there, I filmed the show, I saw her dedication to craft and to her students. It was a fantastic opportunity for the dance students. They had auditions and classes all week long for Broadway shows.

“Western Carolina University students are quite lucky to have someone with Karyn’s expertise in the real world of show business” “You can tell that her instruction prepares the students for a successful future in the New York theatre scene and abroad. Getting to meet and work with her is a real treat.”
It was all because of Karyn. She made it happen, she pulled her connections. Now, she needs your help.
