Our One In a Million. KATRINA

Let us tell you about our Katrina. She is one of the most amazing people we have ever met. She is kind, smart, funny, caring, loyal, and a truly beautiful soul.

After graduating from Schaumburg High School, Katrina went to Colorado College. While there, Katrina grew in
her passion for helping others and decided to join the Peace Corps.

Upon graduation from college. Katrina spent two years living in a South African village teaching
English to the children and working to better the community that had become her home. During her 2 plus years stay in South Africa, she lived without electricity and running water and did it with such grace and unwavering stamina.

Katrina’s time in South Africa furthered her determination to continue to serve the world.
She returned to the US and started working for Gigi’s Playhouse, a wonderful nonprofit that empowers
individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

While working at Gigi’s Katrina decided that to go graduate school to pursue a Masters in
International Development so that she could continue to help develop villages just like the one she had
become so fond of. Katrina finished her degree this May and landed a job with a USAID contractor
implementing development projects across the world.

In such a short time Katrina has accomplished so many amazing things but right now, the girl who strives to help everyone else needs our help.

Katrina at age 27 has just been diagnosed with bone cancer that has manifested in her pelvis.

The cancer, Ewing’s Sarcoma, is a rare and aggressive bone cancer with one in a million odds of
developing. She has begun a rigorous treatment schedule over the next 9 months with 14 days minimum
per month in the hospital to battle  this cancer.

This all comes at a cost. Every hospital visit comes with a $500 co-pay, not to mention the costs
of medications, transportation, surgery and further treatment. While Katrina is currently still working at her
job, the expenses are continuing to build.

The next year is going to derail Katrina on her path, but she has what it takes to beat this and be back to her adventures next year.

We are in this together with her, and are passing the torch to you.

Please help us carry Kat through this, by sharing a story about her or by sharing her story.
At this point, anything helps, so if you can, please consider donating to help pay the medical expenses
 of this amazing person.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions at any time at [email redacted]   We will do our best to reply in a timely manner.  Please know Katrina is doing all she can to keep on keeping on. We have assigned ourselves to support her by being her personal assistants.

It is our hope that we have conveyed a story that will move you, or inspire someone you know.
