For the last year, our dear friend Karen Souer has been suffering. She has put on a brave face, but the time has come for us to ask for your help.
Karen needs $15,000 (to pay for a vital, life-changing, medically necessary surgery and the time to recover).
In February, Karen discovered that something was wrong. Seriously wrong.
Her doctor found she has several large nodules on her thyroid that need to be removed, and some of her hormone levels were way off. After being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, Karen has been on medication since her diagnosis in an attempt to shrink the nodules and control the disease until she was in a position to afford surgery.
Due to the growths and hormone influxes some unfortunate side effects of her disease have included exhaustion, lethargy, lack of focus and mental fatigue, plus the discomfort and pain of having her neck constricted with the size of the growths.
Long story short, her thyroid has made it very difficult to work since March.
As we all know working as an entrepreneur means work is not guaranteed, and incomes fluctuate from month to month. Due to the symptoms caused by her disease, Karen’s workload has had to be reduced which means so has her income and with the rising costs of healthcare, her health insurance has lapsed, and she isn’t able to placed on a policy again until the open enrollment period (which then won’t take effect until January).
The reason we are reaching out now, is that things have gotten significantly worse in the last month. The growths have gotten much larger and are constricting her airways, making it difficult to breathe. As a result, she has developed a strong cough causing what we believe may be a hernia in her abdomen. Her legs have become very swollen and within the past two days, the swelling has progressed to the upper half of her body. Karen is in constant pain and it is not only difficult to sit and work for any length of time, but also fulfilling her basic daily living needs has become increasingly challenging. To say we are very worried about her is an understatement.
Karen is in serious need of financial help to get surgery ASAP, and will need to pay for out of ALL OF IT out of pocket.
Karen’s doctor has a surgical plan which they are confident will provide massive relief to her pain and radically improve her life. Everyone agrees that it is profoundly urgent for her to get treatment as soon as possible.
Waiting until January, is truly not an option.
So we are asking for your help to provide assistance with some of the out of pocket costs she will be facing in order to prioritize her health and well-being.
