Kaleo is a 3 year old little boy who loves playing outside, his friends, his school, worms and mostly his Mommy and Daddy, Tiara and Andrew.

On October 26th, Kaleo was sent home from school with a fever and was complaining about his tummy and leg. For 4 weeks, he was taken back and forth to the doctor with an ongoing fever. His pediatrician originally determined that he just had an ear infection and treated him accordingly but his fever was not going away. On the 9th of November, he was taken to the Emergency Room where they drew blood and ran tests and determined that he had a slight case of anemia and sent him home.  4 days after that, he was back in the Emergency Room with fever. They took chest X-rays and did not find Pneumonia.  He was sent home once again with Ibuprofen. That night he woke up crying about stomach and leg pain which continued through November 22nd, Thanksgiving Day. Once again, Tiara and Andrew took him to the Emergency Room to have X-Ray's done of his abdomen.  It was there that the doctor ordered an ultrasound to check for Appendicitis... and discovered a mass.

Kaleo's parents were given the most terrifying news possible, he has Neuroblastoma cancer. Neuroblastoma is an extremely rare cancer that affects children, mostly under the age of 5 years old. There are fewer than 1,000 cases diagnosed in the US each year. Symptoms include lumps of tissue under the skin, back pain, fever, wheezing and weight loss. Treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.

He was transferred to MD Anderson Children's Hospital and had a port put in so he could start Chemotherapy right away.  His current treatment regimen is 5 days of Chemo, two weeks of recovery and then 5 more days of Chemo- over and over again until they are able to do surgery. The tumor is aggressive and has it's own blood supply so they will not be able to do surgery until the tumor hopefully shrinks it enough for it to be removed, even partially.  Further testing revealed that the cancer is also in his bone marrow and he is considered to be high risk.

Before we go any further, I want to tell you about this family. I have known them for so many years and they are my chosen family. Kaleo's Mom, Tiara, and I danced Hula together for a long time. She is an amazing woman and Mother. She is so in tune with Kaleo and his needs that I personally do not believe that this would have been caught so early had she not been so persistent.  She is a hard worker and just a beautiful human. I love her like a sister and consider her to be just that! I have known Kaleo's Daddy, Drew, since he was in high school. We both named our son's after a mutual friend that passed away of cancer in 2009 and I'm sure that he is reliving every second of the fear we felt when we lost Sam to the same evil disease.

This is where we come in: Tiara and Drew need our help. This will be a long fight and they both have already taken a lot of work off to find out what was wrong with their baby. They have no idea what tomorrow will bring and I want to make sure that they can focus everything they have on Kaleo and his recovery and not worry about their mortgage and household bills, not to mention the medical expenses  that, even with insurance, Kaleo's care is going to cost. They  need to be able to stay with their little boy and we can help make sure they can do just that.

If you are able to donate, please do.  If not, I am asking you to share this on your Facebook page so we can give them all of the support they need.  Emotionally and financially.

Due to the nature of this disease, Kaleo’s immunity is low and will be even lower once Chemo begins. If you are sick, please wait until you are fully well to make a visit. And once you arrive, please sanatize your hands before entering his room or touching anything in his room. Thank you!

Here we go! Tomorrow will be the start of the hardest part of Kaleo’s road to recovery. He will start his high dose chemo along with his stem cell transplant. In laymen’s terms, they are going to totally wipe out his bone marrow and try to kick start it again with stem cells that they harvested from Kaleo in the beginning of this process in November. The high dose Chemo will mean that they will be in reverse isolation and that Mom and Dad will have to bathe him 4 times a day because the poison will be seeping out of his pores. Depending on how he handles the terrible side effects, he could be hospitalized for up to four months, with back to back high dose Chemo sessions followed by radiation.

He’s three years old. I cannot fathom the fear that Andrew and Tiara are feeling tonight as they prepare for the unknown.

The plan? To kick Neuroblastoma’s ass and make sure that our Super Boy never has to face this again.

There are ways to help ease the Collier family’s burden right now. Donate to this Gofundme campaign if you can, share if you cannot and check out the Meal Train update to help out with meals while they are inpatient.

**IMPORTANT** Due to the fact that Kaleo will be in isolation and at an extremely high risk of infection, the family is asking for no visitors during this time. Your support means everything to them. They feel your love and appreciate the support more than anyone could ever understand.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Want to witness a miracle? Stick around ♥️

Bring it on Round 6!

Kaleo successfully kicked butt for his BIG surgery a few weeks back! A HUGE thank you to everyone for the love and support thru it all that day, truly helped make it easier.
Kaleos surgery was successful in removing 90% of his tumor and removed it completely off of his two main arteries, which is exactly what we were praying for.
Now, 2 weeks later, he’s now all recovered and ready for round 6 Chemotherapy tomorrow! A shorter round this time, only 3 days. We anticipate he will plow thru this round like the champ he’s been this whole time and will quickly get back to enjoying QT at home
The last blood drive that we have in the books as of right now is May 13th at TGI Fridays in Humble 1p-5p. This is an extra special location as myself, Tiara, and many Kaleostrong supporters have previously or currently work together at a TGI Fridays. So lets gather, donate, eat good food, and make this another successful blood drive to remember.
There are still plenty of open spots we need filled. Don’t forget to use this link to sign up and donate blood or platelets!

THE BIG DAY

Here we are, essentially at the halfway point, with a nerve wracking milestone approaching this morning at 7am. Kaleo is getting prepped for his BIG surgery at Children’s Memorial Hermann Downtown, and afterwards the Colliers are in for a 7-10 day admission. This surgery will finally remove majority of the tumor (prayers for at least 90% and no complications). It will be open surgery thru his abdomen and will take 12 hours. After that Kaleo will be in PICU because his body may take a little longer than usual to come to with this surgery.
Just to update, his tumor HAS shrunk from when this all started... 11.1cm to 7.4cm vertically and 10.9x6.9cm to 7.4x3.2cm crosswise.
Its also confirmed that the tumor did not come from his adrenal glands as previously thought. We were hoping that as the tumor shrunk, it would detach from his aorta and inferior vena cava. But unfortunately, it’s actually attached somewhere in his back or spine, so even tho it shrunk, it is still wrapped around his main arteries, thus making his surgery more complex.
And lastly, his cancer is still metastasized in his bone marrow and it seems to be concentrated in his pelvic bone & spine.
Depending what time of today (3/26) you are reading this, the Colliers may be barely kissing and sending off their baby boy to be healed, or they may have been sitting or pacing for hours with constant racing thoughts of what could be going on in there, good and bad. Its going to be a full day that brings a lot of worries, nerves, tears, &anger for so many of us out there, but also HOPE and the gift of moving FORWARD in this fight. Let us surround them with the good and only the good, and gather all our love, prayers, and positive energies, especially today.
If you have a KALEOSTRONG shirt, throw it on at some point today and share a selfie to our fb page!
Kaleo Samuel Collier has shown SO much strength thus far, there is no doubt that DACHAMP is gonna win hard!!!!

Kaleo is gearing up for round 4 chemo this week, and he’s not starting out in the best position, he’s got a cold. No fever or anything worrisome, but we are unsure at the moment if this will delay treatment. They will still be admitted Thursday 2/7 and most likely stay until 2/10. Due to this cold, we ask that visitors be limited. But if you would still like to bring the family a meal, Drew or Tiara will gladly meet you downstairs to pick up. Sign up via mealtrain to see if a date is available
