Kaleb’s Cancer is Back!

A couple months ago I found out that my cousin Kaleb was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. He had surgery and it was removed and we thought that all was good… Until I got a text on Sunday Morning from my mom that read, “I forgot to tell you to fast today for Kaleb. He has intestinal cancer and they are going to do surgery tomorrow. Call me if you have questions.” Needless to say this was devastating news for everyone that knows Kaleb!

Kaleb is a father, educator and a leader in his church. He devotes hours of his life in the services of his students, church members, family and countless others. We thought it would be appropriate to help give back and create this GoFundMe account to help with the medical bills that he and his young family will have to pay over the coming months.


The Diagnosis… and the other Diagnosis

Last Spring Kaleb went into see his doctor about getting his tonsils removed. While the doctor did pre-op scans he discovered that Kaleb had Thyroid Cancer. This rocked their world.

It was a busy time for Kaleb and Heather for many reasons. On top of the realization that they had cancer treatments and multiple surgeries, they were also well into their third pregnancy.

If you know Kaleb and Heather, you know that they can do anything… and they did! They made it through the surgery and radiation, fought the fight and won! After the surgery and the radiation Kaleb was clear and good to go. He was scheduled to do a standard 6 month scan next month.

In the meantime Kaleb was able to go back to his job at the school and continue life as normal. In October Kaleb and Heather welcomed baby Tate Brian into their lives. Life was good again!


Last week Kaleb started feeling sick, He went into the doctor and was told that he needed his appendix out. While in surgery the doctor noticed something abnormal and decided to have it tested. The results came in and it was cancer on his intestines. Yesterday he had surgery and all went well. Hopefully, they got all the cancer. Post operation scans will tell us more.

Meet the Yates Family


Kaleb and Heather met while they were both working at the Pre-School on campus at the College of Eastern Utah (Now The USU Eastern Campus Go Golden Eagles!!) While working at the pre-school Kaleb would find excuses to be there while Heather was working. It was love at first site!


Once married Heather helped Kaleb finish his bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and he started teaching at Foothills Elementary (Go Mustangs!). While at Foothills Kaleb taught 3rd and 6th grades and loved every minute of it! While at Foothills, Heather once again helped Kaleb as he finished his Masters in Education Administration (Or something like that). Last year Kaleb moved schools and is currently working as the Culture and Climate Specialist at Heartland Elementary (Go Huskies!).



Kaleb has been married since 2006 and has 3 children, Jenna (7), Dax (3) and baby Tate. They love fishing, riding the motorcycle and going to their family cabin.
