Million Dollar $cholars Kagman High

$6,615 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 39 people in 36 months
We, the Million Dollar Scholars, are a select group of seniors at Kagman High School, Saipan, who have a goal to be awarded more than one-million dollars in college scholarships in the mainland U.S. We will study together, travel together, and attend university together. We have banded together to overcome the obstacles which have traditionally impeded students from higher education off-island: poverty, distance, loneliness, and procrastination.

The money from this campaign will be used to pay for pre-college expenses such as passport fees, application fees, plane tickets, and travel items (suitcases, climate appropriate clothes, etc.) The money will be shared equally among the 21 students who started this club and are leaving island for school. This high school club has a president, vice president, and 4 financial officers who are overseeing this campaign. Our faculty advisor is Mr. Gerard van Gils.

We know that donating money online can make people nervous. All financial donations are routed through our club account at the school to ensure that the money is spent according to the (above) statement of purpose. Still, this is a publicly shared cite so we understand reluctance or fear of misuse of funds. If you wish to donate directly we invite check or cash donations to be made at the Kagman High School front office or by mailing to:

We will share our stories through this campaign and we invite you to join our dream of off-island higher education. We will conclude this campaign at the end of May, 2016 and will be flying off to college in August.

Si yu'us ma’ase and thank you for reading.

We are so excited to welcome the support of the 2017 Washington State Teacher of the Year, Camille Jones.

Camille invited one of our founding scholars, Jessa Camacho, to dinner and has written about that experience on her blog. Please read it and welcome Camille to our community of Million Dollar Scholars supporters.

I wanted to take a second to let people know that our first class of Million Dollar Scholars are doing well. All of my students are still in school and each seems more determined than the next. Some struggle still with culture shock, school adjustments, and of course financial stress. I have left this account open but passive. Should donations come in to this campaign I will use those funds to support this original group who are now in their second semester. These needs vary from adding money to a meal plan to purchasing needed items for them. Soon, we will begin in earnest our efforts to send our next group of Kagman High School's Million Dollar Scholars so brace yourself for more great stories from amazing scholars.

For myself and doubly for my scholars, I thank you for the support you all have shown.

Mr. G van Gils
