Hi there! My name is Julia and I need help paying for Facial Feminization Surgery.
WHAT IS FFS AND WHY DOES JULIA NEED IT
FFS is a series of fairly minor procedures aimed at undoing some of the masculine characteristics of my face that happened as a result of going through a testosterone-fueled puberty in my teens. It has nothing to do with looking prettier, younger, or any other reason you might think someone would get facial surgery. In my case specifically, I'm aiming to reduce the enlarged brow-bossing on my forehead.
My forehead makes me intensely uncomfortable. I hide it with bangs to avoid letting others see it, or worse, letting me see it- the bodily discomfort can feel debilitating. Addressing this dysphoria will drastically improve the quality of my life: I'll be happier, more comfortable with myself, and it'll make me safer in a still largely transphobic society.
I currently have a full-time job, but between the cost of rent, student loans, car payments/insurance, etc. saving enough money for this is proving to be an incredible challenge. I do have insurance, but the procedure isn't covered as they don't understand the realities of trans care and don't view it as the medical necessity they should.
