Help Julianna Become a Writer

Donation protected
My name is Julianna.  I want to be writer. I mean I am a writer, but I want to learn to become an even better writer. I have to write to stay at least marginally sane. Almost every minute of every day I am making up stories or forming arguments in my mind. Writing is the easiest and most enjoyable way for me to express my thoughts to other people. I have grown and learned a lot since I first defined myself as a writer in the 5th grade. I have learned how to intrigue writers by putting voice into my explanations. I have learned how to write stories with multiple layers of intentional meaning and symbolism. I have learned to make well formed arguments with supportive evidence to explain why and how something is the way it is or why it should be a certain way. I have fallen in love with words and learned so much but I don’t want to stop and I don’t want to wait to learn more. Writing is how I express myself. It’s how I cope in a stressful and sometimes terrifying world. The more I learn about writing and literature the more I understand about myself and other people. And that is comforting.

These past two years I have taken my high school English courses at Michigan State in a program called ISHALL. In ISHALL you complete 4 years of high school English in two years. I have done very well in this program and want to continue to learn more. My school offers AP Literature and I will be taking that next year. But in the meantime I want to continue to grow as a writer.

My current ISHALL teacher is fabulous and she is offering a course this summer that I want to take. Since it is a dual enrollment course I would have to pay full tuition. My family cannot afford to do that. I need help with the tuition. Would you please consider donating some money to help me take this class and continue on my path as a writer? I need to raise the money by May 15th. But I have to register before then. So, please consider donating soon.

I really appreciate you taking the time to read this campaign. If you can help, I will be very grateful.

Thank you so much,
Julianna

Here is a description of the course.

WRA 195H - Writing: Major Topics in American Thought

This course will engage students in a conversation regarding their individual identities as writers. Specifically, the course will help students to identify and implement writing strategies appropriate for participation in a variety of communities, including academia. Imagine the world you want to live in. What can you as a writer do to make that world a reality? This course asks you to examine the power of readers and writers and the stories they share. This course challenges students to persuade, to inform, to learn, and to change. During this semester, they will consider how the ways we learn and communicate can shape our decisions and actions. Students will also consider the rhetoric of contemporary American writers in order to theorize how literacy has been tied to statements of belief and calls to action in a variety of cultural communities within the United States
