Juers Gravesite at Calvary Cemetery

Donation protected
Hello Juers Family!

We have a situation that has to be dealt with. My hope is that we combine our efforts as a family & get it done!

Here's one of our family headstones you may have never seen... it's at Calvary II Cemetery in Woodside NY.

The name Kilgalon is on the headstone because Leo J Kilgalon purchased the side-by-side plots in 1919 & 1920.  He's buried there with his wife Elizabeth.

When they married, Elizabeth already had [at least] 3 children from her prior marriage to James J. McGinley; Helen McGinley (my grandmother), Howard McGinley (Helen's twin brother), & Edwina McGinley (their older sister).  Helen & Howard were added to the gravesite in 1986 & 1984 respectively, but they've yet to be added to the headstone.

There are 2 babies here also; baby Mary Ethel, who died at age 1 or 2 (not sure if she's a Juers, a McGinley or a Kilgalon); and baby Helen Irene Juers, my aunt (who died from complications of the measles at age 3).

Another Juers, Harry (1907-1948), is Harry Paul Juers, my grandfather.  He's the father of Aunt Helen, uncles Harry, Don, Gerry, Roy & Bob, & my dad Ken. He's grandfather of [Michael & Gary], [Thomas, Doug, Denise & Jennifer], [Lisa, Roy, Amanda & Alyson], [Corinne & Jerry], and [David, Erik, & Richard].  Harry died at age 40 from a heart condition called IHSS (which in one form or another, has trickled down to some of us descendants).

The situation is, maintenance fees are accruing on the account. To confuse things more, those fees got split into two separate bills, one for each grave.  One grave's bill went to Uncle Harry, who passed in 2012, so they stopped billing him.  The other grave's bill is now going to Harry's eldest son Michael.  Even though the graves are considered one entity, they were purchased seperately, so they're on separate deeds.

The outstanding balance on the two graves combined is at least $1,835.  Without catching up to this balance, they won't allow any future burials at the site.  That may not, by itself, be an issue for the family.  However, they also won't add any other names to the headstone... And there at least 2-3 others (maybe more) that should be on that headstone, that aren't.  One of them is Helen McGinley, our grandmother, Harry's wife.
The other is Howard McGinley, Helen's twin brother.

I believe we owe it to our ancestors to get their names added to this headstone.  I contacted Calvary II Cemetery & discussed buying their "Perpetual Care", so that it's always cared for... but if I did the math right, it's going to be closer to $2100.  I believe it's a one time payment & there wouldn't be any monthly maintenance. But it's been awhile, so I'll double-check on that.

The twist that makes this even more complicated, is that Kilgalon is the name appearing on the gravesite deeds. Without the deed, we won't be able to do anything at the site.  I just don't know if any of Leo J Kilgalon's descendants (if he even has any), are still alive to participate or provide permission.  If not, the only solution is to find the Deed.  Harry must have had them last, because he buried Howard & Helen there in 1986 & 1984, respectively.  Maybe Michael or Harry's wife Linda can track them down.

1919 Deed: #535, for Grave #9, dated 12/24/1919
1920 Deed: #831, for Grave #10, dated 09/16/1920

As I mentioned to our cousin Michael; in theory, with the name Kilgalon on the Deed, we're technically not even liable for the balance due; yet at the same time, there are many Juers' there, so I think this is something that we should do.  Together, we could collectively accomplish this much easier than I, or any of us, could individually.

At the very least, descendants of Harry Paul Juers have the closest connection to this gravesite. So even if just that branch of the tree participated, an average of $150/person would give our ancestors the dignity they deserve.  I'd pay it all myself if I had the money, but I don't at this time.

Anything you can give to the cause would be greatly appreciated & I give you all my word, any funds raised will ONLY be used for that purpose.  All future receipts from the Cemetery will be shared with everyone.

Whatever happens, I hope we can resolve this & get our ancestors' names added to the headstone... that would mean a lot to me... but I need everyone's help to do it.
Thanks in advance!
