My name is Juan José Morán, i´m 28 years old and i am a chef from a restaurant called La Pizarra in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
I´m passionate about cooking, my life has given me lots of opportunities because of my cooking. I was able to be a chef in Antartica for two months, a sous chef for the president of Ecuador and i got to work with some of the best chefs in Ecuador.
3 years ago i opened my own restaurant called La Pizarra, that it is famous for the ecuadorian tapas with my personal twist.
Two weeks ago, i flew to visit my sister, and to meet chefs for the oportunity to make ecuadorian inspired dinners in Miami. After my flight i started to feel partial loss of hearing on my left ear, at first we thought it was due to the flight pressure. I proceeded to take the recomended exams by my physician and he confirmed that i had a 40% loss on my left ear. He suggested i take an MRI to look for the cause, that´s when i found out i had a Vestibular schwannoma (Acustic Neuroma), the size of the tumor is 4cm in diameter (A golf ball size).
After talking with sereral doctors speciallized in this field, they all recomended an open surgery, the gamma knife isn´t the best option for me, because of my age, size and location of the tumor. It´s located on the base of the skull, near the auditory, facial and some other importat nerves.
The doctor already scheduled my surgery for March 23rd, it will be in the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. The insurence deductable, the post operation treatment, hotel and travel expenses are the main reason why i really need your help with the funds.
I´m getting married to a wonderfull girl called Cristina on June 3rd, when and if the surgery goes well. I'm really hopping to live a normal life after the surgery and i intend to get married, form a family and continue cooking for as long as i can.
