Brayden is a sweet, quiet 12 year old.  He is the son of my friend Michelle.  Last night at 7:50pm on Route 25 in Standish Brayden was hit by a utility van.  Responding Sheriff's determined that driver of the van was drunk, had crossed the white line into the breakdown lane and struck Brayden on his bicycle.

Brayden has many severe injuries, he will live but it will be a long and painful recovery for him.  His injuries are broken cspine, shattered scapula, broken ribs, lacerated kidneys, collapsed lung with bleeding and chest tube in and a bruised heart. He is sedated and intubated. Has received blood transfusions.

Michelle is a single Mother of 3 who like many struggles to make ends meet and lives paycheck to paycheck.  Brayden's recovery will not be cheap, Michelle will need much time off from her brand new job, day to day expenses of travel back and forth to the hospital, food etc will add up quick it is my hope that we can relieve some of this families financial burden.  Please help Brayden no amount is too small and every penny is deeply appreciated.

Here the FB Post from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department regarding the crash (I refuse to call it an accident because the drunk driver knew he was putting other lives at risk by getting behind that wheel).   https://www.facebook.com/cumberlandcountyso/posts/10156290991041788

On April 28th Brayden's world changed when he was hit by an alleged drunk/drugged driver. In the days that have followed Brayden has been through countless surgeries, has endured excruciating pain, fear and anger. He received wonderful care at Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland and currently at the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Brayden missed the last few months of school and has missed most of his summer vacation. Through it all he taught us all a lesson in bravery and spirit. Now 90 Days after that terrible April day he is coming home!! Please join us in Welcoming Brayden home and showing him all the love and support he, his mother Michelle and siblings Dylan and Kylie have from the community. Michelle would also like to have the community come together so that she and Brayden can thank everyone for the outpouring of support. Meal will be a pot luck so folks are requested to bring their favorite dish to share. Cake will be provided. Please join us in giving Brayden a huge welcome home.

UPDATE Tuesday June 19, 2018
I have not updated in a while but Brayden and his family need all of you, your love, support and yes, donations more now than ever. It is 7 weeks almost 8, that is almost 56 days since Brayden was hit. It has been 7 weeks of extreme pain for Brayden. Yes, there have been some positives but they seem to always be short lived and are quickly over shadowed by complications, surgeries and unimaginable pain. Brayden is by no means out of the woods. He has had 17 surgeries with still more to come, pain so bad he screams, he faces every day afraid he is going to die. The infections have reach a point where the doctors at MMC are not able to control them and he is being transferred via ambulance to Shriner's Children's Hospital in Boston tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. At Shriner's Children's Hospital he will be able to receive a higher level of focused care. This transfer also means greater expenses and travel for his Mom, Michelle. We have not had donations on the GoFundMe for a little while so I am not going to increase the goal at this time I am just going to ask you not to let Brayden and his family fade from your minds and please help us to get to and even exceed the goal amount. Brayden still has a big fight ahead. Please continue to SHARE.

Update Thursday May 17th
Today marks 28 days since 12 year old Brayden was thrust in to the fight of his life. His road to recovery is a very difficult one, he has a long hard battle ahead of him. Brayden has been so brave and strong but he is scared, anxious and just wants to be home. He is confused and angry over what has happened to him and he continually repeats that he did nothing wrong and doesn't understand why this happened. Brayden went in for surgery again today for more wound clean up as well as a wound vac change. Unfortunately, he has developed an infection in his back and they discovered more dying tissue. The wound goes up under the skin to his shoulders with the largest and deepest area located on his lower back. Last week the doctors had said he would have a surgery schedule of every Monday and Thursday but with the discovery of additional dying tissue and the infection they are adjusting his surgery schedule to every other day with the next surgery set for Saturday.
If anyone would like to send Brayden a card or words of encouragement that would be so wonderful. Mail can be sent to :

Please continue to keep Brayden in your thoughts and prayers. Please Please continue to SHARE as we are $500 away from our goal. ~ Nadine
