Joshua's Bone Marrow Transplant

Joshua was born with Sickle Cell SS Disease. Sickle Cell Disease is a blood condition in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry enough oxygen throughout the body. Joshua has Sickle Cell SS, which is the worst type of sickle cell disease to inherit. He experiences chronic pain on a daily basis.

Joshua is a 16 year old high school student who hasn't been able to experience the same activities and fun that his other peers have experienced as a high schooler. Joshua has been in and out of the hospital since he was a baby. In the last two years, Joshua has been admitted to the hospital increasingly on a monthly basis.

As a result, the doctor's at Emory Hospital recommended that he receive a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, his baby sister, Kalei, was a 100% match and will be donating her bone marrow to Joshua.

Joshua will be admitted to the hospital at the end of June 2018. He will remain in the hospital's care until October.

As you can imagine, this is taking a devastating toll on Joshua and the whole Swanier Family. Joshua's journey will be a long one. He needs as much support as possible. Please send your well wishes.

Additionally, his journey will place an unexpected financial burden on the family. This is the reason for this page - to provide additional support to Joshua and the Swanier Family during this difficult time. Anything will help during this time of need.
