2016 Paralympic Trials in Charlotte

$2,315 of $5,000 goal

My name is Joshua Myers, the 2015 National Paralympic Shot Put Champion in the F33 Class.  Last summer after Nationals I thought my dream had fallen short and it was time for me to shift my efforts  to the 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan.

But today I recieved an email that I have qualified  for the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials for Track and Field! The Trials will be held in Charlotte, NC at Johnson C. Smith University on June 30th, July 1st and July 2nd

I did some historical research and learned what I am attempting to do is pretty tough.  The US National Team has not had a Shot Put participant in my class isince the 2000 games in Athens Greece, And I already throw a meter further than he did at those games.

The  US National Team has set the standards so high to make the team so high, they won't send an athlete unless they have the ability to medal.  Know that if you continue to support me, you will be supporting a Paralympic medalist.  With you help I will do this, and not only will I medal, I plan on winning GOLD!

Why I am requesting this sponsorship?

I am requesting this sponsorship because I understand that it is difficult for companies to sponsor me because disabled sports reaches such a small market and is hard for them to see a monetary return on their investment.

I am looking for monetary assistance to help pay for my entry fees, travel, and lodging during the meets I need to attend along my journey. I will be attending two meets during he 2016 season, The Desert Challeng Games in Tempe, AZ and then of course the Paralympic Trials in Charlotte  each one comes with its own set of expenses. My previous GoFundMe donations are saved in account and will be helping me pay for my entry fee into the Desert Challenge Games and my Flight to Charlotte, but I will be in need of a travel companion to help with my equipment (along with some personal things).

Thank you for once again considering to donate to my Paralympic dream.  GO USA!

Hi all. I thought that my 2016 Paralympic dream had ended when I wasn't invited to the Pan Am Games or World's this past summer (even with winning Nationals by over a meter).

Today I received an email from the USOC that I have been invited to compete in the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials that will be held in Charlotte, NC at Johnson C. Smith University on June 30th, July 1st and July 2nd!

This is a selection event and the team will be selected on July 3rd!!!! Two days after my 36th birthday!!! is this destiny?

I am mainly looking to help fund a travel companion as I will need help caring my throwing chair and equipment from place to place.

If have donated in the past, and can consider donating a little bit more, or sending this on to someone that may be interested in helping I would greatly appreciate it.

Most folks I have been able to update through Facebook and at work, but a few are only updated through the GoFundMe site.

Although I was far and away the best thrower in my class (of 6), I was not selected to represent Team USA at the ParaPan-Am Games in Toronto.

I have updated my account description as to why I think that is (please read and share my story to inspire others).

I also think that is the ended of my bid for the 2016 games. I am not quitting on this goal and have shifted my focus to the 2020 Games in Tokyo Japan.

Thank you all for your continued support, my first National Championship isn't possible without any of you. Thank You & God Bless.

Hi all:

I returned home Saturday night from St. Paul as the 2015 National Champion in the Shot Put, F33 Class! I was not able to throw the 6m I wanted to but I did throw 5.64m, which is above the minimum qualification standard for Parapan-Am games in Toronto.

I do have $300 left from the current funding that I will be carrying over to Toronto. I will also update the Go Fund Me information then also with more information about the event.

Thank you all for the continued support!

The Training for Step One is done. I got my final practice throws in last night. Now today and tomorrow are rest days. I leave for Minnesota with my good buddy after work tomorrow.

I feel strong and ready, but I have never been to a National event of this magnitude before so I don't know what to expect. As many of you know the 2015 Paralympic National Championships serves as the qualifier to be part of Team USA and represent my country at the ParaPan Am games in Toronto this August!

I want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support! I promise the current fear, nervousness and pressure I feel at this moment, will all turn into wonderful adrenaline once I get on to the field and strapped into my chair. Being a National Shot Put Champion has always been the goal, and I plan of fulfilling it!

This isn't the end of my journey, but just the beginning! None of this would be possible without you! Thank You all for your continued support!
