Josh's Danish Academic Conference

$860 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 20 people in 13 months
I am raising money for travel expenses so I can go to an academic conference in Denmark this December.  The Interacting Minds Centre has invited me to to the International PlayTrack Conference 2017 to present my research on textual analysis of fifteen roleplaying games.
This conference is an opportunity for me to meet other educators and scholars working at the intersection of literature, education, and games. If you would like to learn more about my research, you can read the full abstract here .
The hosts of the conference believe my research will "attract a lot of interest" at the conference, so they have offered a travel grant to help cover my expenses. This grant will cover about one third of my plane ticket. I am raising money to help cover the rest of the ticket.
As a high school teacher and father, I can afford to cover conference costs, and I may be able to cover my hotel, but I need to raise enough money to pay for the rest of the plane ticket.
(Any extra money raised will go toward staying at a hotel that is closer to the conference.)
Why should you contribute to this fundraiser?
1. To help me realize my dream of interacting with scholars and educators outside the USA. I've published papers and attended local conferences , but this is an opportunity for me to interact with a larger world.
2. To enrich the larp scholarship community by sending a literature scholar to a top notch game scholarship conference.
3. Or maybe, you want to contribute to the fundraiser just to give me an excuse to practice my Danish ! I have been studying this language six days a week for the past thirteen months.
Whatever your reason, thank you for your support.

I submitted the title of my research to the conference today. I will be presenting "Style in Instructional Text: A Comparative Textual Analysis of 15 American Freeform RPGs," at the International PlayTrack Conference at the School of Education in Aarhus, Denmark.
I still haven't bought my plane ticket, because I'm waiting for official word that my time off request at school has been approved. (My colleagues assure me that it will be approved.)

Thank you so much for your support. I am thrilled to be able to meet with other educators and researchers working at the intersection of education, games, and literature.

Sincerely,
Josh

My wife Anessa and I are excited and thankful for the $750 you have donated toward my larp research trip to Denmark. I plan to d buy the plane ticket later this week.
Please help us raise money by linking to this fundraiser where other educators and gamers will see it.
On this trip I will present research on analyzing games as instructional texts. I will show what I discovered about fifteen larps when I analyzed their text. The conference organizers tell me my research has raised a lot of interest over there. With your help, I can share it with them in person!
Thanks,
Josh
