Such is the nature of an expatriate life. Stripped of romance, perhaps that's what being an expat is all about: a sense of not wholly belonging.

- Sarah Turnbull, 2003

For some it has always been home, others it is currently home, and for the rest it might not ever be home.

With forty-five percent of the population falling into the expatriate category, Oman plays host to a rich, diverse and colourful culture.

The Middle Eastern country has developed exponentially over the last forty years, and one of the significant figures responsible for this is HM Sultan Qaboos. Pictures of His Majesty are proudly hung throughout the numerous infrastructural establishments. There is an enormity of pride amongst the population, regardless of where people fall within the aforementioned categories.

What accompanies fresh economic growth is the need for skilled foreign workers in sectors which are still in the development stages. Oman is no exception to this. Bangladeshis and Indians take care of most of the manual work, whilst Europeans tend to satisfy the needs of education and healthcare.

A division between immigration and expatriation is apparent on the basis of nationality, skin colour and financial income.

Oman is generally a peaceful and prosperous country; a sanctuary from the conflicts which litter that part of the world.

This page is to raise the funds to transform the existing book maquette into a run of 30 hand signed artist books. I would love if you could help make this happen, and own something cool in return!
