Hello everyone!
This month we made the unfortunate discovery that Jorge has a rare form of cancer called Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma, cancer of the bile ducts. This is a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and there are fewer than 20,000 cases in the U.S per year. It has metastasized (spread) to his liver and peritoneum [the lining of the abdominal cavity].
At this point, he must undergo several rounds of chemotherapy to relieve his symptoms. The disease has rapidly taken a toll on him physically and emotionally. However, he has handled the last few weeks beautifully, with the utmost humility, and is ready to take the next step in this battle.
His care thus far has been at Rush University Medical Center. His team of physicians and I are hopeful and optimistic that even given the rarity of the cancer, Jorge will have many years with us. Jorge will be focusing on getting better.
This is where I humbly ask for your help. People have been so gracious with their offers and prayers. I appreciate every gesture, none more important or helpful than the other.
