Jon Skeet reading the C# 6 spec by the fire

£4,280 of £5,000 goal

Raised by 171 people in 15 days
As requested by Barry Dorrans, I will read some of the C# 6 draft specification out loud in my living room, by the fire (well, stove) and in a rocking chair, wearing something as close to a 70s cardigan as I can find.

The C# spec is huge. I'm not going to read all of it, but I promise to read for at least an hour, which should be sufficient to cure any insomnia. I expect I'll add occasional sidebars for bits of the specification I disagree with or particularly like. I'll at least put the video on YouTube, and may live-stream it at the time, too.

Proceeds from this GoFundMe will be donated to Trans*Code, supporting the trans community and allies with hack days etc. I don't expect many people to share Barry's odd taste in videos, but I do hope I can reach a lot of people who are glad of an excuse to support the trans community.

Currently I'm only seeing it in 360p, but I believe that's because higher quality versions are still being uploaded. (I recorded in 1080p, so we should get there eventually.)

It seems like the community is heavily invested in me spending a bit of time repeatedly increasing the goal. Let's be clear about this: £1000 was a ridiculous initial goal for a frivolous activity. When we got past that, I expected £2000 to be a reasonable stopping point. In retrospect, increasing to only £2500 and then to £300 was perhaps foolish. As I write this, we're now at £3540.

I'm going to raise the goal again, this time to £5000. Surely that will be enough. Admittedly I'm now trying to think of an incentive for extra silliness if we reach £5000. (A song on the theme of C# perhaps? Or would that be a disincentive?)

Anyway, please know that I'm humbled and encouraged by the response. I'll be recording the reading tonight - possibly with Holly as a hidden audience as she paints an Advent figure in our living room at the same time. (That she'd be willing to endure the whole hour of this says a lot about Holly.)

So we've now exceeded the second goal update of £2500. I think this is now Officially Silly - and I'm humbled by the support received.

Yesterday I did a short dry run to check microphone placement etc. I'm hoping to be able to do the full recording on Wednesday evening (December 5th) and post the video by the weekend - but other factors can intervene.

Thanks again for all the support - and I'm going to bump the goal again, just to encourage more donors.

Wow - I thought this might do well, but I didn't anticipate hitting the £1000 initial goal quite this soon.

I'm going to keep upping the goal, as I suspect that anyone viewing a campaign that hasn't hit the goal is more likely to donate than if it's already met that goal. But please don't mistake that for a lack of gratitude - it's extremely cool to see community support like this.

More importantly, I need to start working out exactly when and how I'm going to do this. As mentioned on Twitter, I'll try to involve Tony the Pony somehow as well...
