Over a year has gone by since my dream became a reality and The Poutine Kitchen finally opened its doors last April. The road to the opening was very eventful. Many of you have followed us during this journey, as we were making the early steps in developing Germany's first cheese curds production, and at last witnessed the grand opening of our restaurant in Berlin's historic Arminius Markthalle!
It's unbelievably touching to see all the encouragement we've gotten from you in creating this little piece of Canada in the middle of Germany's capital. For this, a big thank you to all of you who have supported us along the way!
It makes me happy to see that we've created something very unique for Berlin and Germany. The Poutine Kitchen has become more than just a restaurant, it’s a place to celebrate German-Canadian friendship. The Québécois food icon is a delicious ambassador and gives a mouth-watering taste of Canada, similar to the love I felt for poutine when I had the first bites back in Montréal in 2007. It has also become a place for the Canadians abroad when they are a little homesick and need the familiar flavours of fries, gravy and cheese curds.
As wonderful as our first year of business has been, it has also come with a number of costly experiences, leading to unexpected expenses for the restaurant. Right after a great start to the business last spring and our smashing Canada Day party www.facebook.com/canadadayberlin/videos/2054304767914362/ with more than 2.000 poutine enthusiasts, we ended up in one of the longest and hottest summers in more than a hundred years. The kind of summer that you always hope for but difficult for an indoor location in such a historical market hall. The heat-related sales losses were painful for us and still effect us.
While the day-to-day operations of The Poutine Kitchen are now sustainable, we need additional liquidity to cover our past expenses. We have a plan to successfully work through the coming summer, which includes continuing to serve our delicious poutine at festivals, markets and a another epic Canada Day celebration, and getting our products (gravy and cheese curds) ready for an online shop & retail to make sure you get your full poutine treat directly delivered to your doorstep anywhere in Germany. But to make this happen, we need your support!
With our goal of 10.000 Euros, we ensure that The Poutine Kitchen is ready for the second year. All the money donated will be used to help build the future of this business and our continued development of this company.
