To my dear friends and supporters :

I am sending gratitude and love your way here on the full moon of August, 2018.   I hope this update finds you all well. I am happy to announce that my book, Reimagining Death: Stories and Practical Wisdom for Home Funerals and Green Burials, is in the last stages of design now, and that it is already available for pre-order on the Penguin/Random House website and on Amazon.

Here's the link to Penguin/Random House:
  https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/576929/reimagining-death-by-lucinda-herring

If you want to pre-order a copy, that would be awesome, as apparently pre-orders generate greater interest and visibility for a book. The book will be available January 8th 2019, provided all goes well with the last stages of printing, etc. So please tell your friends and colleagues if you think they might be interested in purchasing a copy.

I promised you an excerpt from the book way back when, so I am making good on that promise now. I will be sending an excerpt from Chapter Two “Greening the Gateway of Death,” via your email, as I cannot figure out how to attach it as a document here! It is the story of one of the first home funeral vigils I helped hold years ago, for my friend Glen and his family. I chose to tell it as a teaching tale. I thought it would be a good offering to send you all.  If you want an excerpt, please email me through the Go Fund Me site and I will send it your way.  Please do not share the excerpt however with others yet. This  is a request from the publisher.

In addition, if you know of anyone who might still wish to contribute to my Go Fund Me project, I would be so deeply grateful. I have not quite made my goal, and I am now embarking on marketing and book tours, which will require more financial resources and investment of time and energy in the coming months. I am pleased to announce that I will be doing my first book reading for the Helena, Montana library September 11th, as part of their Big Read series, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. The library system is flying me there and paying for my accommodation, which is such a gift, and feels auspicious and a gift from the Universe ( via my sister in law Holly who helped make it happen :) )

I send all of you my heartfelt appreciation and love. My book would never have been written without your incredible generosity and support in this past year. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For believing in me, and in the home funeral and green burial work. Together, we are reimagining death, and helping change the very paradigm of how we care for our loved ones and for the earth when we die. Love Lucinda

Hello everyone,

I’m Lucinda Herring.  I’m here because I’ve been asked to write a book about my work as a home funeral/green burial guide, and licensed funeral director, and the growing interest in more natural and sustainable after-death care.  I’m thrilled to be working with North Atlantic Books, a well known non-profit publisher whose books help transform consciousness and culture, and explore the relationships between mind, body, spirit and nature.  They are a perfect fit for me, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity.

My book will help families and communities who wish to care for their own dead again, and to do so in ways that care for the earth and the environment as well. I will be writing about partnering with nature and drawing upon our own creativity,  instincts and presence at the threshold of death. And how comforting and beautiful and healing this can be, for the person who has died, and for all those left behind.  These more natural practices are part of “Greening death. ” They can help us find greater acceptance and closure, and even a lightness of being and joy in the midst of mourning. They help heal the heavy thought forms of fear and denial we all carry about death and bring us home to ourselves and to the Earth.

This is a book whose time has come, and I am so happy to have the chance to share my stories, wisdom and practical guidance with a larger audience .

So here’s where you come in.  I hope to create a container of financial support that will enable me to complete my book in the coming months, and market it successfully afterwards.  If you cannot contribute financially, please hold me and the book in a positive field of blessing I can draw upon while I write. And share this video widely with all your family and friends to spread the word.  Both would be wonderful means of support.

The book is scheduled to come out late fall 2018. I’ll be creating regular updates here on this site, and sharing readings and inspirations with supporters along the way.  So join me in this exciting venture, and become part of a movement for positive change and transformation in how “we do death” in our society today.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.  And blessings to you all.

It turns out I cannot send the excerpt through this update program. My apologies. If you wish to receive an excerpt from my book, please email me at the address the GoFundMe site has given you, and I will send the excerpt to you as an attachment.

Thank you again so much and Blessings! Lucinda

I promised you an excerpt from the book way back when, so I am making good on that promise now. I will be sending an excerpt from Chapter Two “Greening the Gateway of Death,” via another update, as I cannot figure out how to attach it as a document here! It is the story of one of the first home funeral vigils I helped hold years ago, for my friend Glen and his family. I chose to tell it as a teaching tale. I thought it would be a good offering to send you all. So look for it after you receive this, and please let me know if you have any problems reading it. May it inspire you to read the whole book soon! Please do not share the excerpt however with others yet. That is a request from the publisher.
