John Star Vision Surgery Fund

Donation protected

I am Andrea Osborn, wife of John Star.  John is a magician and friend to many in the magic community. Although John performed mostly in the U.S. and Europe, he is known worldwide as the Brittish "Woody Allen". Originally from England, John moved to the United States 10 years ago, shortly after we fell in love while he was performing at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA., in 2004.  We married in 2005 and John moved to Houston to join my family in 2006.
For over 20 years, John has only had vision in his left eye. Ever since John lost vision in his right eye, he has has worn a prosthesis (commonly referred to as a "glass eye").
Recently, the vision in John's left eye has been deteriorating rapidly.  He has very little sight due to a severe cataract and poor retinal strength. The doctors tell us that if he does not receive cataract surgery within the next 6 weeks his retina will become severely compromised. This makes further surgery  more complicated, greatly increasing the chance to completely lose his vision.  The situation is further worsened by  an infection in his right eye which must be resolved before the doctors will perform cataract surgery.
John's prosthetic eye was made many years ago and he can no longer completely close that eye while sleeping,  further complicating medical issues.
The doctors require that John receive a new prosthetic eye which fits properly, prior to performing the cataract surgery.  We can receive funds through local charities that will pay for the surgery, but not the cost of the prosthesis.
The funds raised in this campaign will be used to purchase a new prosthesis which, as mentioned, is required prior to the cataract surgery.
Restoring vision in his left eye is critical in order for John to move forward and and live an independent, productive and fulfilling life again.
Restoring John's vision is my greatest personal  goal in life at this time. I have borrowed what I can from close friends and relatives but we still need  an additional $3,600 in order to purchase the new prosthesis.
If you know John, you know how much joy he has given to so many, for so many years,  with his unique and humorous magic . It means the world to me to be able to restore my husband's sight and if you can contribute any amount to this campaign, our entire family will be forever grateful.  Thank you and God bless all of you who spent the time to consider helping John.

Most Sincerely,
Andrea Osborn
