John Kampes, Coach for 13U and 16U Maryland Legends Travel Baseball Teams, Coach for the Rising Sun High School Baseball Team and the Associated Executive Director for the Cecil County YMCA was critically injured in a car accident on May 7, 2016.   John was attempting to turn left on Hwy 274 in Rising Sun when his car was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic causing him to be ejected from his vehicle.  John suffered three fractures to his neck and back, a fractured clavicle, dislocated shoulder, broken ribs, broken arm, broken leg and fractured knee.  He was flown to Christiana Care Trauma Center in Newark DE where he is  currently admitted in the ICU and they placed him in a medically induced coma.

John is a community leader who spends both his career and personal time working to better the lives of children throughout the Cecil County Community.  Through his work with the Maryland Legends, YMCA and Rising Sun High School Baseball Team, he has taught integrity, professionalism, teamwork and leadership to hundreds of children.   John spends every weekday, evening and weekend throughout the year working with kids to help them realize their potential.  John also has wife and two teenage son's at home.

John will be out of work for months while he heals and rehabilitates from his injuries.  Please help this community hero and his famliy with their overwhelming medical related expenses.  No donation is too small!

John has been moved from the Surgical Critical Care Unit at Christiana Care to a step down unit and his recovery is progressing well. His tracheostomy was inserted earlier this week and John is resting much more comfortably. Surgery to repair his broken arm is still scheduled for Friday and if all goes well, they plan to transfer John to a rehabilitation center sometime next week. John is looking forward to getting out of the hospital to start his rehabilitation! He is aware and overwhelmed by all the support that has been received from friends, family and the community. Thank you to everyone who has donated and please continue to pass this campaign on to everyone you know.

John continues progressing with his recovery at Christiana Care Hospital. Friday he is scheduled for surgery to repair his broken arm. In preparation for moving to a rehabilitation facility (possibly next week), doctors are working on helping support John's breathing and nourishment with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube (expected in the next several days). John is looking forward to moving to the rehabilitation center and getting out of the hospital to continue his recovery! At the rehabilitation center, John will begin the long road to recovery of his multiple physical injuries as well as working with a speech therapist. Thank you to everyone who has donated to John's recovery fund. While our original goal of $50,000 was an incredible accomplishment; John and his family can use so much more! Please send this page to everyone you know so we can keep this campaign growing and show our support for this incredible man and his amazing family.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and donations! John is making good progress with his recovery. He is now off the sedation and the breathing tube has been removed. He is responding to questions and talking, which is absolutely fantastic! John and his family realize that people will immediately want to come visit him. However, they respectfully request that everyone give John, Dawn and the Boys time together after what has been a very long couple weeks. This post will be updated again when John is ready to accept visitors. As you know, he has several injuries which continue to be treated now that he is awake and communicating. While our initial amazing goal of $50,000 has been met, please forward this page to everyone you know to show our continued support. John and his family still have a long road ahead of them while they continue to heal and they deserve all the help we can give them.
