An elderly Aussie man was left to die in a Bali hospital because he doesn’t have insurance to pay for life saving treatment.
John Burke (Bourke) from Darwin, Australia who has lived in Bali for the past 8 years was attacked in his villa in Gunung Salak in Kerobokan.
He needed immediate surgery to relieve pressure on his brain from internal bleeding but without insurance he lacked the funds to pay for the surgery himself.
The current estimate is a maximum of 20,000 USD.
My name is William Irwin and I have started this GoFundMe for John Bourke on behalf of Adam Fritz and the other Bali expats who have been taking care of John over the last few days.
I am orginally from USA but have been living in Bali for 6 years now.
This particular case struck a chord with me as I have had numerous friends who have had to wait for payment before surgeries were started. I know Adam has gone out of his way to make sure the delay wasn't any longer and potentially saved John's life. As a fellow expat it is wonderful to see everyone coming together to help out and promote this type of generosity in the future.
As I am technically a friend of a friend with John I can understsnd any hesitations in donating. I have given all of the Gofundme account details to Adam and will be transparent throughout the whole process. I am the director of Bali Diamond Villas and am more then willing to meet with anyone in person at my home or office to show any bank details. The reason I signed up was because the local church tried and couldn't set it up (Indonesian). I then thought it had to be a US citizen so I offered. I will be transferring all funds from America directly to an Indonesian account (supplied by Adam) and the funds will only be used for medical costs directly. No other parties will be involved. If there any extra funds Adam and John can coordinate their appropriate use (I will try to update what this will be in the near future)
