John Egbers' Medical Expenses

$36,489 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 420 people in 14 months
Created June 15, 2018
While racing the Trans Am Bike Race, John Egbers was struck from behind by a vehicle. He was transported to the hospital where he is currently in the trauma center undergoing surgery. With multiple broken bones, a collapsed lung, along with other injuries, he needs our support.

John is a pillar in the cycling community - producing the Dirt Bag gravel race and supporting our passion.

Please consider donating to help his family cover medical expenses, traveling costs and anything else they need during this trying and difficult time.
Please send positive thoughts and prayers for him and his family as he begins his journey to healing.

Thank you so much!

Hello Friends,

This Sunday, July 15th, there will be a Celebration of Life for John at the Beaver Island Brewery. Details are below. I hope to see you there.

In Kindness,
Bonnie

Celebrating John
Beaver Island Brewery
St. Cloud, MN
Sunday July 15th from 3:00-9:00 PM

"Due to the overwhelming amount of family and friends who are planning to attend this event, the time has been extended. We are doing this so that everyone who wants to honor John will be able to get in the doors. There is a limited capacity in the Brewery. The time expansion allows for guests to come and go like an open house.

His family will provide a Toppers pizza buffet. Beaver Island will sell beer. Desserts will be provided by friends.

There will be overflow for guests who wish to sit and visit, and share stories about John amongst themselves. The Veranda Lounge in downtown St. Cloud will be open - Toppers pizza and desserts will also be available at the Veranda.

There will not be a raffle at this time, just come to honor John. This event was originally planned as a fundraiser for him. I have now requested it be about him. His children and I are not the kind of people to be “funeral like.” Please know this event will be all about celebrating John. Please come to share your love, your stories, your songs, your poems, and your hugs.

I would suggest making hotel reservations in St. Cloud near the downtown area. The Grand Stay hotel is directly across the street from Beaver Island. There are two other hotels downtown within walking distance.
Come and go, as you please."

Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness that I share the following update from John's CaringBridge:

"When we started this caring bridge, we had hoped to provide details of John's journey toward recovery. John's life story has been one of great adventures, love, and incredible relationships. We are heartbroken to share today's update and have stumbled to move through tears and find the appropriate words. John's heart stopped beating today. His medical team made every effort to restore his heart beat, as they have grown to love John too. Unfortunately, John's life story ends today. But wherever his next ride takes him, we find comfort in knowing he is pedaling his ass off and happy to be free.
We hope that you continue to be inspired by how he lived. "

John was exemplary in life, one that I think we could all be inspired by. He looked at the big picture - what is important verses what is temporary; the good of the whole verses the selfishness of the immediate. He loved his family relentlessly and cared for others constantly. He gave back to his community and was graciously kind. If you take anything away from this post, may it be to live life fuller by being kinder, dedicated to the things that truly matter. Life is short for each one of us. Live with integrity and you'll never waste a single day.

Please continue to keep Susan and John's entire family in prayer.

Rest in peace, my friend. Thank you for all that you have done.

In kindness,
Bonnie

Hello friends!
I wanted to take a moment to give my many thanks to all of the new donors! It really makes a difference for John and Susan!
I raised the amount of the fundraiser to help offset at least a small portion of the rising costs. As you can imagine, it adds up quickly Please continue to share this site.

I did a short tribute ride to John week. You can view it on below.
I'll be sharing an update from Susan soon.
Please continue to keep her and John in your thoughts and prayers.

Kind regards,
Bonnie

Hello Friends,
Thank you for your ongoing support for John, along with his wife Susan! This journey is far from over for them as they carefully continue to navigate John's injuries and the healing process. Susan provided an update this morning -

"June 26 today was Johns goal date to make it to the finish line. He was feeling good riding hard and strong but most of all he was determined. He was in the top third of riders and had gone about 2.2000 miles in 12 days . That’s amazing for anyone and more so for a 64 yr old. I am extremely proud of him. Now he will need to use that same determination to face the biggest challenge of his life- the fight to recover. At day 24, his goal date, he is waiting for the ventilator that helps him breath be moved to a tracheostomy. The new joy is being able to close his mouth and communicate by lip reading until he can be trained to speak through the trach. I don’t share this for pity, I share this because it is his reality. We are a few steps closer to getting to one of the best spinal cord rehabilitation facilities in CO."

Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and again - thank you for your support!!

In kindness,
Bonnie
