Matthew Ryan Oberst died peacefully in his home on November 27, 2016, in Cary, NC. He was 42.
Matt was a long-time English teacher at Sterling Montessori School in Cary, NC. Countless students passed through his classroom, and were better for it. Matt's love of education—both teaching and learning, as well as his love of music, were of paramount importance to him. The only love that eclipsed these was his love for his children, John and Annabelle.

Matt was born on January 3, 1974, in Omaha, NE. He is survived by his two children; parents Matthew and Nancy of Omaha; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Justin and Mackenzie Oberst and their children Sam and Penny, Washington, DC, and Conor Oberst and Corina Figueroa of Omaha.
Matt leaves behind a large and loving family of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins who loved him so very much. He also leaves behind countless students whose lives he impacted, close friends, fellow musicians, and colleagues who will never forget him.
