NCTE Professional Development

I went to the National Conference for Teachers of English for the first time in years last November, and it completely the changed the way I teach two of my English courses. I revamped my instruction for "Hamlet" after taking part in a Folger Shakespeare Library workshop, to the massive benefit of my students, and I picked up great new ideas for teaching "The Great Gatsby" to my American Literature kids, including a really fun year-end "Gatsby Party" that my students loved.

Here's the thing: Those two days in St. Louis last fall reenergized me as an educator and helped make me a better teacher. I could drive to St. Louis, however. This November, NCTE is in Houston, TX from November 15-18, 2018. This will require a flight and a hotel, which neither I nor my school can afford.

I have itemized my expenses as such:

Registration: $270
Transportation: $510 (flight prices as of 5/25/18)
Lodging: $400 ($200/night for two nights)

Any ground transportation or meals would come out of pocket.

I would like to attend NCTE again in the fall of 2018, but I need help getting there. My kids will benefit greatly, just as they did this past school year. Will you help me get there?
