Joe Brown's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
My name is Lindsey Viera, and I am writing on behalf of the University of Massachusettes Lowell Police Department.

On the evening of August 13, 2015 our fellow officer, Joe Brown, was off duty spending time with his wife and daughters. They had just left a local school where Joe had just exercised. On the short drive home Joe was stricken by what was later determined to be a massive heart attack.

Thanks to the life saving measures performed by his family and then local EMS, he was revived for transport to the hospital in Nashua. During his five nights in the ICU he was kept on a ventilator and sedated. Joe was then transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital for more intensive care. While at BWH Joe was diagnosed with full blockage of his heart artieries that will need to be treated with a bypass surgery. While at BWH Joe had surgery for a feeding tube and then he was taken off sedation. It has been a long month for the Brown family and they have watched Joe as he slowly tries to recover. He is now speaking an occasional word, but has not fully started to communicate.

As of September 10, 2015 Joe has been transferred the Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston for intensive neurological rehabilitation. The doctors have continued to give Joe’s family hope for future progress. The treatment plan to this point is three to six months of rehabilitation and then Joe’s medical status will be re-evaluated.

This is an opportunity for us to support Joe Brown and his family while they experience this life changing event.
Anyone that knows Joe understands that he lives his life with the main goal of being the best father and husband that he can be. He has immense pride for both his daughters and enjoys the family time they spend together. He is very proud of the fact that they are both attending college and more importantly that they are “good people”.

During Joe’s 25 plus years in law enforcement he has helped many people and has always tried to treat people with dignity and respect. I think he is a great example of the type of person you want as a co-worker and certainly as a friend.

Please consider donating to this fund to assist Joe Brown’s family as they continue down his long road to recovery. His immediate future will be from within the hospital walls and with that brings many unknown expenses to his family.
