Joe Miles is Cycling for Alex Evans

“Hello, I’m Joe.

Just over a year ago two friends of mine, Charles & Tom cycled around Snowdonia, raising money for Epilepsy Research UK. A fantastic achievement for them raising £1,300.

Not long after this the beloved Alex Evans passed away, a devastating blow to all those who knew and cared for him.

I remember an overwhelming feeling of helplessness, he was gone and there was nothing I could do.

I have true admiration for the Evans family and the strength they were able to draw upon at the time to make the arrangements for what was a magnificent send off for a magnificent gentleman.

To follow on from that and set up the Alex Evans Fund  has been extraordinary, seeing the progress the fund has made launching Powerhouse Academy  and offering a Counselling & Listening Service , in wake of such upsetting circumstance has been excellent to see. Alex would be proud I'm sure.

I saw Charles post a Facebook status a while ago saying something like 'Anyone wanna ride John O'Groats to Lands End?' and immediately I thought of Al.

I wanted to do something that mattered for a man who mattered so much to so many.

Between Charles, Tom & I, we've started to plan our adventure of cycling the True end-to-end.

Charles cycling for Epilepsy Research UK for his sister.  Tom cycling for Children's Liver Disease Foundation for his girlfriend.  Myself for the Alex Evans Fund for Al.

We have all bought camping hammocks so of an evening we'll be looking for some tree's to tie up to set up camp. Our team training so far has consisted of one ride where I managed to come off my bike doing over 40mph, luckily coming away with just a few cuts and bruises. As we get closer to our start date we're beginning to get serious about the 1000 miles we have ahead of us.

Through this challenge I hope to be able to raise funds for the Alex Evans Fund.

As an added incentive for those donating it has been agreed that whoever raises the most money out of the three of us will shave their head.

Alex always found time to remind me my hairstyle was comparable to a farmhouse loaf of bread. I could imagine him happily paying £500 himself to see me with a shaved head!

Any and all donations, no matter how large or small will be most gratefully received in honour of the funny, witty, generous, loving, caring, talented, intelligent and thoughtful gentleman that was Alex Evans. We all miss you Al. x”
