Hi everyone!
My name is Joanna Gonzalez and I am an animation student here at the California State University of Monterey Bay. It saddens me to say that the animation department at my university has lost both professors, staffing and technical support due to severe cutbacks and under funding. There are a few students, including myself, that are still trying to pursue our animation career despite these unfortunate set backs. This forces us to piece together personal equipment, sometimes even forcing students to share equipment while working on multiple projects.
At my school, we are required to create a capstone thesis project, which will incapsulate all years of education. Due to the deep budget cuts, I am unable to rely on the equipment at my institution- it is broken, not available or years behind where animation currently is. The equipment available to me has severe limitations during the semester, and will not even be available during the dates of production. Without access to proper equipment I am struggling to further my artistic abilities and complete my capstone which needs to be completed for my B.A. Because my school has cut back its animation department, I am one of the last students to be taught by a true animation-based professor. I have been attending CSUMB and participating with the department since day one, focusing all of my effort into creating art with limited resources.
I want to use my capstone final thesis project as a way to showcase my talent to apply for graduate school or jobs after college. This can only be done, if I get proper funding to be able to build a resume and reel. My school does not provide the necessary steps in order to properly showcase my talent, or offer a way I can confidently show my abilities.
Without the proper equipment at school, computers, software, Wacom tablet, or other accessories to properly animate- us students are required to piece together our own workflows and projects.
Your donations will help me complete my capstone, and help set me up for more job and graduate opportunities in the future. Your donations will directly go to my final thesis project through the support of software, drive space, and equipment that I simply can't afford otherwise. I need to complete this project for my degree, and don't want my schools' lack of equipment to come in the way of my final thesis.
