JLT Fieldhouse- Mentoring Leaders
JLT Fieldhouse, Inc. is named after my late father, Sgt. Major Joe Lewis Thompson, USMC, who inspired me to not only talk about my dreams, but to follow them. He served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, with two tours in Vietnam. Since he lost his battle with Leukemia in 1996, I have worked to honor his legacy of giving back.
JLT Fieldhouse, Inc. is a nonprofit 501c3 organization with the mission of "Coaching and Mentoring the Leaders of Tomorrow". We offer year round intense one-on-one and team-oriented basketball training as well as lessons in leadership, teamwork, goal setting and overcoming obstacles for boys and girls ages 6-17. While we primarily focus on the basics of the game of basketball, we also work on developing cross-over athletic skills, building self-esteem and stressing the value of team success over individual achievement. Our major contributions to the community are mentoring and coaching of life skills, and establishing an Innovation Center and a scholarship foundation to provide educational assistance to JLT Fieldhouse participants and nonparticipants alike.
The development of a productive Innovation Center begins with a digital footprint and strategic approach. Our 4C’s, 1) Content, 2) Communication, 3) Community, and 4) Culture, will provide attendees the opportunity to engage with extended experiential learning using 21st century learning spaces, virtual/augmented reality, and hands-on mentoring. We have had the discussions to quantify our programs’ position and now move forward to qualify its future narrative.
Developing rural America is a lynch-pin for our organization. Providing education as an investment into Rowan County, NC is a focal point. Our JLT Fieldhouse Innovation Center will focus on education, health and wellness, and workforce development. Utilizing the following community education tracks, our focus of developing young men and women will come to fruition and be long lasting. Our full educational plan can be viewed at http://jltfieldhouse.com/wp/education-innovation-center/
Our "Assist" Mentoring Program extends beyond the basketball court and includes:
a) Monthly Meals on Wheels deliveries for the sick and elderly
b) Annual "Back to School" and " Christmas Toy Drives" for Prevent Child Abuse Rowan
c) Administering Ambassadors of Compassion™ (AOC) leadership programs by Lift Up America™
To house and continue to grow our athletic programming, open our Innovation Center, and continue our mentoring program, we need to acquire and/or build our own facility. The great news is that we have identified such a property: one that has the athletic facility and the space to start, run and maintain our Innovation Center and Mentoring programs. This is where your support is truly needed to allow us to coach and mentor more children in and around our community.
Here is what is being said about our program and how it is helping the kids in our community:
“We are fortunate to have the JLT Fieldhouse organization to offer coaching, leadership, and mentoring to children in this community. Coach Thompson and his staff devote as much energy and time to developing character and integrity in young people as they do to developing the skills needed for athletic growth. He gets to know each participant as an individual and provides a caring environment for students to grow in their confidence and abilities.”
"My two daughters (ages 10 and 12) have received invaluable experience from attending JLT Fieldhouse clinics and sessions since its inception. First, and most important, is a positive athletic experience that they look forward to every Saturday. It is truly part of weekly routine because they both love attending the clinics. The summer camps are filled with enthusiastic coaches that provided days of hands on instruction along with life lessons that will shine through our kids' for their entire life . My girls always look forward to their time with Coach T. and our community is better because he is helping our youth become inspired on the basketball court and more importantly, off of it.
Thank your Antwaun for doing what you do!
"My son has benefited greatly from your clinics. He has gained skills, confidence and learning how to work with others. This is amazing because he is very shy. He has learned to be a team player and loves the game of basketball. The skills he has learned will last a lifetime. These clinics have made a lasting impact for him.
"To me my son has learned to be a team player it's help him help others that may not be has far along as him to be a leader when it presents itself. So from me and him, we are thankful to make out community a great place to live now and in the future"
"Yes Coach T is awesome! He works very well with my son and pushes him to the limits that he knows he can accomplish!! I have seen a major change in my son skills in basketball and I respect coach T because of his continued support throughout the year and his dedication to not only my son but to any kids involved with him. I look forward to many years with him and hope he does expand and blow up and be worldwide…he so deserves it!!"
"I can't say enough good things about Coach T and JLT Fieldhouse as an organization. What Coach T does for the kids and the community is truly a labor of love. My 13 year old son has never really played basketball but decided he wanted to learn. We started with Coach T in January with one private lesson per week and clinics on Sundays. It's now March and you would NEVER know my son only has a few months of experience under his belt. His skills have grown exponentially. But more importantly than that his confidence and his self-esteem have skyrocketed. Coach T is an amazing influence and mentor on top of being a great coach. He really loves the kids. You can tell by how he relates to them, interacts with them and communicates truth with them! You will not be disappointed!"
"McAllister is really lucky to have you as his role model and teacher as he pursues his passions. Your leadership in the sport is great, but your enthusiasm and leadership in life sets you apart. Thank you! He is looking forward to coming to see you for years to come.”
So, you can see that we are making a positive impact to this point, but this is but a small percentage of the kids that we want and can reach. With you contribution and investment, we make perhaps exceed our own expectations!
