Jim’s Cancer Treatment Fund

$19,915 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 178 people in 14 months
Created November 4, 2017

on behalf of James Ewing
My father Jim Ewing was diagnosed with cancer 4 months ago and is currently undergoing chemo therapy. At the end of chemo Jim will require major surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

He will need to be there for approximately 6 weeks following surgery.   Surgery will hopefully be covered by  insurance, however  they will still need meals and temporary housing,  flights back and forth from Florida to Minnesota and transportation  to and from the hospitals and doctors offices.  My mom, Deenie Ewing, will also be with him for this long road ahead.

These additional expenses are not covered by the health insurance and is where you, our friends and family come into play.

Please help me raise the funds to help my father, Jim Ewing, win his battle against cancer.

Every penny helps. Please donate anything you can, and please share this with everyone you can.

Thank You for your support for my father’s fight.

Hello Everyone, this final update is actually from me (Jim), not my son Mike.
I can't thank everyone for their donations, prayers, support and well wishes over the last 10 months or so.
My surgery at the Mayo Clinic went better than we or the doctors had planned on. The doctors were amazed that they couldn't even find any microscopic cancer cells once they tested all my organs, lymph nodes, etc. Because of that, they've given me a 95% survival rate, basically saying we've beaten this cancer.
When I returned from Rochester MN on March 30th, I wasn't feeling well and had developed a fever. This landed me back in the hospital in Plantation the next day for another week. Was diagnosed with Sepsis and a UTI infection. Luckily I pulled through that but had to have another drain tube put in my back to take care of an infection that was found in my abdomen. After a week in the hospital I was sent home but had to have daily IV drugs administered by a home health nurse. That went on for another two weeks, then I was finally released to come back to work on April 23rd. It was very nice to come back to a great welcome back party by my wonderful staff and great food supplied by Marc Croquet and Business Services. Since that time I have been back to work and I have felt fine. It's great to be back to work. I've missed everyone.
Next week is my first follow-up appointment back to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN since my surgery. I'll need to go back every three months for tests and check ups, for the first year. After that I hope they spread the appointments out a bit farther.
On behalf of my family and I, thank you again everyone for all your support, prayers and donations. Every dollar that was raised on my behalf was used to support us during this ordeal. Photo below of the new thinner me.
Jim.

Good morning everyone it's Friday March 9th coming to you from Sunny 30° Minnesota . I wanted to give you an update on my status. Things are finally moving along well as far as my pain threshold, it seems I turned the corner on the whole pain thing yesterday. I was released from the hospital on Thursday March 1st still in considerable pain but obviously only for another week. My surgery went excellent according to my surgeons and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. The doctors feel that the chemotherapy regime that I did before surgery did its job as they were unable to find any remaining microscopic cancer cells. Because of this my doctors have now given me a 95% chance of survival. We are ecstatic and praising God and thanking all our friends for their prayers, support and donations. Even though I'm out of the hospital resting and recuperating I still have numerous doctor appointments to attend. My next appointment is March the 15th which will remove one of the main drains. If everything goes along okay from there the last drain will be removed on March 22nd. From there we will probably be here about one more week still dealing with training therapy. I'm pretty positive we will be out of here by the end of March. I hope to be back to work by the second week of April. Over the course of the next year I'll be required to return to the Mayo Clinic every 3 months for a check-up, plumbing leaks and training.

Once again myself and my family thank you for all your love, support and prayers that have gotten me through this journey.
Jim.

I just wanted to give everyone an update on the status of my treatment. On January the 5th I finished my last chemotherapy session. This weekend we are heading to Rochester Minnesota to the Mayo Clinic for further testing the following week and surgery on February the 9th. I can't thank you all enough for the support you provided to allow myself and my wife to make this trip. Thank you for the prayers and well wishes of encouragement. I will provide an update after surgery as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Jim Ewing.

Spent the day with dad at chemo yesterday. Doctors are impressed with how well he is doing. Still has all his hair. He is starting to have issues with the nausea.

But we are all hopeful that this is going to be bearable.
