Jim has had a life changing spinal cord injury. Because of the nature of his injury, we will not know the significance of his condition for quite some time.

He required emergency surgery and will stay in intensive care in the hospital for several weeks followed by intensive rehabilitation far from his home.

We are raising money to support Jim and his family to get all of the necessary help and support they need during this difficult time.

Modifications to his home, medical equipment, adaptive equipment for driving and helping with all the normal bills are just a few of the many things this account is designed to help with.

All of the funds will directly go to Jim and his family.

If you have a moment, send him some love! Its amazing how just a quick note of encouragement can change a whole day around!!

Medical update:

Big week for Jim! His tracheostomy was able to be removed. This makes breathing, talking, and eating easier.

Jim was able to use a manual wheelchair and go one lap around the gym track on his own. Exhausting and difficult for now, but with continued prayers and strength this too shall soon be a feat conquered !

Update:
Jim is doing much better from a breathing standpoint. His trach has been capped for most of this week and if he continues to do well breathing on his own, his tracheotomy will likely be taken out completely on Monday.

He is doing better with swallowing food from a technical standpoint. However he does not have much of an appetite and food right now tastes very different / odd to him.

In other news:

Apparently there is a tradition at Shepherds. They have an appointed "Mayor" who is a patient that has been identified as someone with the right attitude, a loving and uplifting spirit who will help the other patients and encourage the same. The Mayor has a football, that when his stay is done, he signs, and passes on to the next person he has identified with these traits in the gym or in therapy sessions as the next Mayor.

Today the reigning Mayor was discharged home. And he came to Jim's room to officially swear him in as the new Mayor and pass on the football to him.

I know this selection comes as no surprise to all of us that know and love Jim so dearly. Even in adversity #TheJimmyTway shines through always helping others.

Update:
Jim had a few rough up and down days with low blood pressure which is not unexpected after a spinal cord injury. It is unfortunately a fairly common thing to have to manage and accommodate to and with the help of some medications and compressive garments he is now doing much better. He has been working very aggressively with therapy and at this point is exhausted and hurting after just the morning session. His strength will continue to improve with time though and he can already see some progress in regards to this.

There's a pretty special group of guys headed down to see Jim this weekend for the holiday. The #runningbuddies will give us some more personalized updates coming soon!
