The Mendoza family needs your help!

Big Jim was lost in a North Dakota blizzard for two days. Freezing temps, drifting snow, and closed freeways, yet he survived. Jim is a strong man, but with a body temperature dropping to under 90°, he would not have made it without the help of a kind stranger.  That stranger was a linesman who spotted Jim in his buried vehicle and helped him get to medical care.

Staff at a Casselton clinic connected him to his worried wife, Vicki, and rushed Jim to an ICU in Fargo to be treated for hypothermia.  Unfortunately, it was also discovered that Jim has stage IV renal cell carcinoma. This cancer started in his kidneys and has spread to his brain.  The diagnosis came on Jim's 59th birthday.

Jim is home now, back in Scandia, MN with Vicki and their daughters, Erin and Jamie. The Mendoza's are a strong family, but, just like Jim in that ditch, they will need help.  They will do the hard work of fighting the disease, which includes a brain surgery, what you can do is donate here, and continue sharing this story.

Family, Friends, Neighbors, and Kind Strangers: Please help out this family. Thank you!

WOW! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! The response to Jim's adventure in North Dakota has been absolutely incredible! His story was covered by multiple local news stations and papers, and shared all over the country! Even People magazine wrote an article about our Midwestern Miracle! Here is the latest from the Mendoza household:

OVERWHELMED: The Mendoza family has a lot to deal with since getting home last week! Blood sugar and insulin management can be intimidating, but they mastered it quickly! This week they have also been busy connecting with an oncologist and a neurosurgeon at the U of MN, and have a plan to treat his cancer with lasers, radiation, and immunotherapy. It is SO MUCH to learn and adjust to, and can be VERY stressful and nerve wracking!

OVERJOYED: The support this family has received is unbelievable. They have received donations of food, money, medical supplies, groceries, propane gas and help with household chores. Phone calls, cards, and campaign comments continue to warm their hearts. Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT! It has helped immeasurably in taking the edge off of this life-changing diagnosis. ❤️❤️

OVER THE GOAL!! The initial financial goal was reached within a week! I am increasing the goal to simply indicate that this family will need continued support throughout this journey. Continued financial donations and prayers are much needed. This fight is far from OVER.

ONE LAST NOTE: Jim was able to speak with the man that found him in the ditch. His name is Matt, and he is the first stranger to help Jim in this story. (Many thanks to you, Matt, you are truly an ANGEL!!) Through sharing this story, many other people that don't know the Mendoza family have also been moved to help. Continue sharing this story, you never know who it may reach and who may be able to help. THANK YOU!!!
