I redid this story thing because it's been a while and i felt as though this is a bit more official than updates. earlier this year, i was wrongfully fired from a queer owned and operated coffee shop you all probably know of. i was basically fired for standing up for one of my coworkers who was also being treated unfairly. at this point, i was starting to save and look into top surgery and i was/am already on hormones. i was also beginning therapy and beginning to build a savings for after care, general survival, hormones, etc.

while unemployed for three months, my bills continued, needing to eat continued, and the struggle to find employment while being a trans person of color with no legal name or gender marker change made this last longer than my savings could even begin to support me.

i threw a fundraiser for me and other folks to be able to make a bit of extra money and i cut hair until i could land this current job. unemployment did not kick in until recently because the owners of my previous coffee shop job did not respond to EDD in time and i had to reapply. this was irresponsible on their part and i took the consequences for their actions.

at this point, the only job i have been able to find is only offering me a couple shifts a week and my pay checks are not even enough to help my girlfriend out with rent or pay any of my bills.  i also have been putting off some doctors appointments which are basically consults for looking into my intestinal issues that have landed me in the hospital for 1-2 week stays twice now.

also, i just lost my car keys and needed to pay over $500 in towing fees and to make a new key. that $500 was pretty much all i had in my account.

right now i have insurance, car payment, food costs, and i need to buy more hormones in a couple of weeks.

i am also continuing my goal to get top surgery and change my legal name and gender. this year i need to renew my license so i'm hoping to get a lot of this done soon.

i wrote all of this information because i wanted to be as transparent as possible with yall. if you are able to help then i'd really appreciate it. if you cannot afford to or just don't want to, then i hope you can at least share the link.

thank you,

I have been dealing with Medi-Cal for the last three months. I send in my most recent paystub and they decided I don't make enough and that I make over the limit of $1397 a month. LET ME TELL YOU I DON'T.

They refuse to listen to me when I explain how my pay stub is laid out so they think my tips are consistent income and that my hours are way more than they actually are.

Next, they wanted me to end my unemployment claim. I am still eligible for it because I don't make enough money/get enough hours. WHICH IS WHY I CANT POSSIBLY MAKE MORE THAN THE LIMIT!

But unemployment told me that all I need to do is not certify for benefits and that I don't need to cancel esp because my claim ends in May.

Keep in mind, Ive been on the phone with them at least twice a week and they suddenly took the case worker off of my case without telling me in advance. And each phone call took forever because each customer service agent didn't believe I was my legal name.

So now I have no unemployment and no insurance. Which means my top surgery date is canceled, i can't afford to go to the dentist to check on this tooth (my wisdom tooth is shifting and my mouth is swollen), and I'm going to need hormones soon and I don't even know how much that is because I've never paid for the total amount because I had insurance!

Thank you to everyone who donated and shared this. You helped me survive 2018. Unfortunately, I have run into new health issues at the exact same time as insurance issues. I might start trying to circulate this again or make a new one??

I found employment a couple of months ago and have been working as hard as I can as much as I can even while sick in order to build back my funds and pay bills etc. I wanted to safely be able to make it through this year and I wanted to get a raise so I can save up and would take any shift possible no matter how stressed or sick. This landed me in the hospital last week and forced me to miss work for a week because I had a heart rate of 37-42 and was super weak and delirious.

Medi-cal has been messing with me and leaving me on "pending" for the last couple of months after Ive had it for several years. They just kicked me off because my recent pay stubs showed that I make $37 too much per month. Which is extra annoying because Im not fulltime so their idea of my pay rate isn't even consistent or accurate. :(

The point is, I went to urgent care without insurance which was $500+ and now my surgery which was scheduled for NEXT MONTH (April 25th) will now either be out of pocket ($6500ish for surgeon and $3000ish for other fees) OR I need to figure out this new insurance and still inevitably pay a certain amount that I definitely don't have.

Anyways...mercury in retrograde amirite? T__T

I just found a part time job. I am hoping to get another one soon. I need to save up again! I am hoping to be able to pay my girlfriend back because I was unable to help her with rent since May. I also need to buy a bunch of supplements and prescriptions that my doctor has suggested but I was unable to afford.

Thank you for your help and continued support. Without these donations, I don't know how I would have gotten through this.

I still have some bills to clear and I need to save up enough for the days I will needs to take off, travel and hotel expenses, and any after care I'll need.

I'm only working at this job for 4 hour shifts currently and don't know if it will work out seeing as how it's a cis white space and I am the only poc LET ALONE queer person in that space.
