We have had the pleasure to work with an amazing person, Jessica Sheeler, for almost four years now. Jessica and her husband Mark met in high school and have been married for three and a half years. Mark served his country proudly in the Army for four years and had been promoted to a Staff Sargent at some point during his service.
Two years ago when Jessica was 26, and her husband Mark was 28, they received news that a young couple never could have imagined. Mark had been diagnosed with brain cancer. Everyone, including the doctors, remained confident that Mark could beat it because he was young and healthy. Mark’s great sense of humor and good spirits remained throughout the treatments. With the moral support and prayers from Jessica, family, and friends and surgery to remove the tumor, Mark was given the wonderful news that he was in fact in remission.
According to the doctors the type of cancer that Mark had fought was not a type that could come back but would come back at some point. Being that he was young, the hopes and thoughts would be many, many, many more years along with the hope for a miracle that it never would.
Mark, now 30, and Jessica, now 28, just got the devastating news that the brain cancer has come back and much more aggressive than last time. Four tumors have surfaced this time and more aggressive measures need to be taken.
Jessica and Mark, too proud to ask or accept help, are having a hard time. Between the many doctor’s appointments and caring for Mark, Jessica is continuing to try and work full time but has exhausted all vacation and personal time to be with Mark when he needs her. Jessica has taken time off with no pay to be with her husband but it has become financially difficult. Jessica has been trying to makeup time by coming in on weekends, when she can, to make up some hours even though she needs to be with Mark, in order to pay the numerous medical bills along with the everyday bills they have.
The reason we wanted to share this amazing young couple’s story is because we feel it is most important for Jessica to be able to spend time at home with Mark as he needs it and not have the added financial stress.
If you are able to donate anything to this couple it would be greatly appreciated. And, if you cannot, that’s okay, just say a prayer as it will mean just as much.
