Fight of a Life Time..
In the begging of August of 2016 after slowly losing her sight, hearing and the feel for hot and cold Jelena was diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a fist.
She was urgently rushed to the emergency room to have her first surgery that released the pressure from her brain as well as to get her sight and hearing back to normal.
With all of the successes the first surgery had unfortunately the whole tumor was not removed and the doctors insisted on a second surgery where they had no luck in removing it completely once again.
Jelena’s family was advised to take her to Vienna as to where the best doctor was for this type of rare brain tumor.
She had her third successful surgery in Vienna and then went through 33 chemotherapy treatments as the doctors were not able to remove the tumor completely once again.
They were hopeful that the chemotherapy will remove the parts of the tumor that they couldn’t remove surgically as it was wrapped around a nerve.
Unfortunately after the treatment was complete and additional scans and test were made to ensure the success of the surgery as well as the chemo the surgeon’s had to give her the sad news that it wasn’t successful.
Jelena was advised that with her tumor being extremely aggressive and malignant she will need to have a fourth surgery and additional treatment after it.
At this time she was sent back home from Vienna to be with her family and loved ones but will need to go back to Vienna shortly.
With Jelena not being a Vienna citizen her family had the gruesome task of paying everything out of pocket (trips back and forth, testing, surgery, therapy, accommodation, medicine etc.)
They have closed their family business, borrowed money from loved ones, took out bank loans in order to cover the excessive bills and are sadly at the point of selling their house in order to get Jelena the upcoming surgery and treatments she needs.
As a part of the NJIT basketball family that went on to win the championship Jelena has learned valuable life lessons and for this reason she has been able to tackle this head on as a champion with a heart of a tiger not letting herself get discouraged and giving it her all to fight the battle of her life even on those days where she finds herself feeling that she doesn’t have the energy to fight no more.
During this hard time in order to ensure that Jelena’s family worries only about Jelena they have requested for her aunt (Jelena Mirkovic) to be the beneficiary of the donations.
Please help her to not worry about these bills.
